It would be fine to cast a male in a female role, and vice versa, as long as the actor plays the charcater as the correct gender and is true to the author's intent. All of the orphans in ANNIE are female.
Rooster Hannigan Rooster is a comedic role for a boy who is energetic and can show a lot of enthusiasm. Rooster and Lily St. Regis are the comic team who claim to be Annie's parents but are revealed to be Miss Hannigan's swindling brother and his sleazy girlfriend in disguise.

The original Annie film is one of my all time favourite movies and I have watched it over 500 times! This family musical taking place in Toronto is recommended for ages five and older and I must agree that our 6.5 year old enjoyed it compared to our 4.5 year old.
The bad heavily outweighs the good. Use of language such as GD multiple times is disturbing. The alcohol, sexual references and behavior of the adults are pretty disgusting. While the story of Annie and Mr Warbucks has a good story line it's ruined by the trash in the rest of the film.

Mild swearing occurs. When Annie says Sandy needs to "go," Stacks asks if it's "champagne or gelato," among other comparisons. There are also some blatant lies and other inappropriate behavior from a campaign manager, which puts Annie in danger.
I was shocked when I got very close to the end of this film to hear two utterances of God's name in vain. Up until then, this movie was flying along as family approved, at least for ages twelve and above. I later learned it had originally been rated G, but then was switched to PG.

Warbucks decides he wants to be a proper father to Annie and formally adopts her. Ms. Hannigan tries to endear herself to Mr. Warbucks but he rejects the flirtatious orphanage director and leaves as soon as he can get a signature from her.
The next morning, Annie waits apprehensively for the Mudges to claim her ("Maybe – Reprise"). President Roosevelt arrives with the news that the F.B.I. has discovered that Annie's real parents were named David and Margaret Bennett, and they passed away a long time ago. The Mudges are imposters.
