Cars 2 is a 2011 American animated spy comedy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures. It is the sequel to Cars (2006), the second film in the Cars franchise, and the 12th animated film from the studio.
Pretty much yeah. Pixar doesn't like acknowledging the majority of Cars 2 besides the World Grand Prix and I guess the dent being connected to Mater meant it was connected to the spy part of the movie (despite him getting it in Radiator Springs) and might've just took it out to ignore the film even more.
Italy. After adapting the Grand Prix races to the real cities of Tokyo and London, the filmmakers decided to create the Italian Riviera town of Porto Corsa from whole cloth.
Cars 2 is about silly spy games splashed around a flimsy false premise. We don't see the story of Radiator Springs post-fame. We don't get more issues with Lightning McQueen and his lack of appreciation. Instead, it's like a totally different movie, like an Incredibles follow-up focusing on Jack-Jack's babysitter.
In response, Mater rolls out of Mack's trailer, alerting everyone in earshot that his friend needs quiet. In response, Lightning chuckles at this, referencing Cars 2 where he learned to accept Mater for who he is.
Mater returns in Cars 3 but in a smaller role compared to the first two films. In the first scene he is next to McQueen and tells everyone around to keep quiet so McQueen is ready for the race.
Anticipation for Cars 4 is high, but Disney has not addressed any details for the movie. Producers have shown openness to expanding the franchise, with potential for a new lightning McQueen narrative. Story details remain a mystery, focusing on potential Cruz Ramirez involvement and moving away from McQueen.
Cars 2. Miles Axlerod in Cars 2. Though at first Professor Zündapp appears to be the main villain of Cars 2 for driving the plot, it is revealed near the end of the film by Mater that Axlerod was behind everything.
Expected much more from my favourite animation studio. A disappointing conclusion to an enjoyable series, Cars 3 is nothing more than a movie made for merchandising, the kids may love it, but there is very little here for adults. Lightning McQueen struggles to keep up with a new generation of racers and technology.
Doc died prior to the events of Cars 2 (his voice actor, Paul Newman, died in 2008), although he continued to be remembered and referenced by Lightning, Mater, and the other cars.
Despite being rated G, the movie is much darker than the first film, as it contains lots of violence and intense scenes. The more appropriate rating for this film could be PG.
Box office. Cars 2 grossed $191.5 million in the United States and Canada, and $370.7 million in other countries for a worldwide total of $562.1 million.
“Cars 2” overcompensates for those “Get off the fast track” mid-life crisis musings, but does so in an often funny and action-packed “James Bond goes racing” comedy. They turn more of the story over to the comic relief, the dopey tow truck Tow Mater, and get a sillier, more kid-friendly movie out of it.
Cars 2 had been far from Pixar's best movie, which meant audiences were extremely skeptical about the next installment in the trilogy. This was undoubtedly the biggest factor working against Cars 3's box office success, as the previous movie had soured many audiences on the whole concept.
It is unknown why Holley did not appear in Cars 3, but it is possible that the nature of her work meant that she was busy with her job around the time of the third film.
Cars 3 is not the best Cars movie but it is better than Cars 2 for sure . Focusing more on the story rather than the action unlike Cars 2 which focused more on the action rather than the story itself. Randy Newman composes another amazing score. Fun for the whole family and fans of the Cars franchise.
Cars 2 came out, it was indifferently received (and crucially failed to secure a Best Animated Feature Oscar nomination) and it sold a bunch of toys. When the Carsland section of the revived Disney California Adventure opened the following summer, it was rapturously received but had little to do with the sequel.
But Cars 3 really does deliver the feminist goods and it's all down to the introduction of a new lead character, Cruz Ramirez, a badass “girl” race car voiced by Cristela Alonzo. In the film, Cruz enters Lightning McQueen's life as a seemingly confident motivational trainer.
Cars 3. Due to his death, Doc doesn't appear physically in this movie but a huge portion of it focuses on McQueen remembering him. He is also mentioned and alluded to several times as well as appearing in a few flashbacks that McQueen has of Doc training him, which helps him focus on race.
Cars 2. "Professor Z, aka "The Professor," is an internationally-wanted weapons designer in a small, sophisticated German package. He is a brilliant but mad monocle-wearing scientist who is plotting to sabotage the World Grand Prix.
Although the scene didn't make it to the final film, John Lasseter, who says to be an avid spy films fan, liked so much the idea of spy cars that he kept it in mind, and it became a main element in Cars 2.
How Old is Lightning McQueen? In the original Cars movie, McQueen is in his early-to-mid twenties, and reaches the apex of his career in his late thirties in Cars 2 , before approaching obsolescence and retirement in his early forties through Cars 3 .
In December 2023, during an interview at the 2023 Porsche Rennsport Reunion Event, the creative director of the saga, Jay Ward, revealed that Pixar is developing new projects related to the franchise: "There are more Cars things brewing, I can't say much more yet.
