Hugh Jackman reconciled with the mother who abandoned him at the age of eight after having children of his own helped him better understand her private struggles.

For those unfamiliar with Hugh's tragic backstory, his mum - Grace McNeil - abandoned her son to start a new life in the United Kingdom, and never came back. And whilst the mother and son pair have since rekindled their relationship, Hugh says it has taken ''a village'' to help him recover from the trauma of his past.
Jackman now understands that his mother was suffering from undiagnosed postnatal depression at the time of her departure. "The thing I never felt – and I know this might sound strange – I never felt that my mum didn't love me," he explained to the Australian Women's Weekly.
Jackman, 54, started with a savoury waffle topped with pan-fried Norfolk field mushrooms and cheddar cheese sauce. He followed it up with a sweet waffle topped with bananas, toffee and chocolate and a mixed berry milkshake. The Wolverine star's mother lives in Norwich and he is a huge fan of the Canaries.
Jackman was born in Sydney, New South Wales, to Grace McNeil (née Greenwood) and Christopher John Jackman, a Cambridge-educated accountant. His parents were English and had come to Australia in 1967 as part of the "Ten Pound Poms" immigration scheme.
The actor, 54, has previously discussed how his mother “abandoned” her family in Australia and returned to the UK when he was just eight years old, leaving her husband, Christopher Jackman, to raise the actor and his siblings alone.
A year later, the Tony Award winner was born. When Jackman was 8 years old, his mother left and moved back to England, later taking his sisters with her.

"I remember thinking, 'I like this girl. ' " Despite his initial interest, it took Jackman a few weeks before he was ready to tell Furness how he felt about her. "Deb and I were already best friends, and I realized I've got a crush on my leading lady," he explained.
The couple met on the set of the Australian TV series Correlli in 1995. Jackman has said that he immediately knew his soon-to-be ex-wife was the one, despite the 13-year age gap between them.
