Yes. After the crowning of Aragorn, Legolas returned to Mirkwood and recruited a group of elves to migrate to Gondor and populate Ithilien so that the land could be made fair again. He must have seen his father and obtained permission to lead some of his father's people to Ithilien.
Thranduil is once again seen when Legolas and Tauriel return with an Orc hostage, Narzug. He is interrogated but refuses to answer, mocking Tauriel about the impending death of a Dwarf. Thranduil dismisses Tauriel after she threatens to kill the Orc, commenting that he doesn't care about the death of one Dwarf.
After the Siege of Barad-dûr in S.A. 3441, when Sauron was defeated, Thranduil led the remainder of his people north back to the Woodland Realm, where he was crowned king.
