Elvish languages are constructed languages used by Elves in a fantasy setting. The philologist and fantasy author J. R. R. Tolkien created the first of these languages, including Quenya and Sindarin.
J.R.R. Tolkien was a philologist and linguist who was fascinated by the process of language creation. He created his Elvish languages using a combination of his knowledge of historical linguistics, his love of poetry and myth, and his imagination.
But most magnificently, Tolkien also shaped the English language, through his work as an author and as an etymologist working on the Oxford English Dictionary. Famous words coined by Tolkien included hobbit, eucatastrophe, tween and mathom.
There are actually two forms of Elvish commonly learned by fans: Quenya, or high Elvish, and Sindarin, both based loosely on Finnish and Welsh, two languages Tolkien himself studied. And these can be subdivided into different dialects.
You can't actually learn to speak the Elvish languages of Quenya and Sindarin from The Lord of the Rings and Silmarillion—the examples from Tolkien's books are not internally consistent, and there's not enough there to really make up a language. But both Quenya and Sindarin are heavily influenced by the Welsh language.
Tolkien had two names for God, “Eru” and “Iluvatar”. Iluvatar is also Quenya, originally meaning “Sky Father” but later Tolkien revised the linguistics, and it translates more directly to “Father of All”. Rarely, but occasionally Iluvatar is referred to as Ainatar, or “Holy Father”.
Furbish. If you're looking for an easy place to start learning a fictional language, Furbish is your best bet. The original toy released in 1998 by Tiger Electronics came with a dictionary with just 42 words.
The language of Dothraki was the first language created by David J. Peterson for the Game of Thrones. He explained, that its grammar is mostly similar to Russian, but the vocabulary is heavily inspired by Genghis-Khan Mongolian language to reflect their nomadic lifestyle similarity.
Darnassian, Nazja, and Thalassian are considered the modern elvish tongues spoken by the modern Kaldorei, the Naga, and the highborne (respectively), while Elvish itself is an ancient tongue no longer used as a primary language.
Hobbits were Tolkien's invention. However, the word "hobbit" existed in a work from the 1800s called the Denham Tracts which listed various mythical creatures. No one has been able to find a source for what those original hobbits were or if Denham just made the word up.
The man was a professor at Oxford and specialized in English language and literature. He knew the Anglo-Saxon classics (like Beowulf, upon the scholarship of which he had a huge influence) and how they have endured through centuries—and you can see their impact in his work.
He was inspired primarily by his profession, philology; his work centred on the study of Old English literature, especially Beowulf, and he acknowledged its importance to his writings. He was a gifted linguist, influenced by Germanic, Celtic, Finnish, Slavic, and Greek language and mythology.
Throughout his life, Tolkien was able to speak a large number of languages, including: English, Latin, French, German, Finnish, Old and Middle English, Gothic, Italian, Old Norse, Spanish, and Welsh.
Nor should we imagine that Tolkien built his worlds from a rigid system of references. The author fused his inspirations into an alloy that he could shape freely. He also generated multiple stories from a single inspiration. What he called his “feigned history” lives on its own terms.
Valyrian is a made up language not based off of any but the two phrases: "Valar Morghulis" and "Valar Dohaeris." It sounds like Estonian, Russian, and Swahili. However, David J. Peterson makes sure that his made up languages do not resemble existing ones.
High Valyrian, a fictional language created by David J. Peterson, is a member of the Valyrian language family. The language is no longer used as a primary language of communication by the common people of Valyria, but it is sometimes spoken by its elite society.
For many, Esperanto is the easiest language in the world and considered a stepping stone for learning other ones. While no country has adopted Esperanto as an official language, it's been widely supported by the European Union and organizations like PEN International.
Mandarin Chinese is considered to be one of the most difficult languages in the world as it is a tonal language with thousands of characters and a mysterious writing system.
All the universities and educational institutions spread across the world consider Sanskrit as the most ancient language. It is believed that all the languages of the world have originated from Sanskrit somewhere. The Sanskrit language has been spoken since 5,000 years before Christ.
Galadriel speaks Sindarin, Quenya, Khuzdul, and Westron in the Lord of the Rings. But she knows more languages. For example, Telerin and Vanyarin; her father used these two languages much in their house and Galadriel herself visited Teleri a lot and presumably Vanyar as well.
Shiväisith is the native language of the Dark Elves. While the Dark Elves can speak other languages, it is their native tongue and the language they prefer to use to converse among themselves. It is written in a system of runes know as Todjydheenil (see below).
