Alex (Julia Schlaepfer) and Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) first meet while Spencer is away from Montana traipsing through Africa, ignoring letters from his aunt Cara (Helen Mirren) back home, and the two have already spent their time fighting lions and exploring remote and gorgeous locations.
Alex and Spencer were headed to Montana to help the family, but even after hopping onto their third boat—they still couldn't manage to find their way there. In fact, the couple is forced to separate after a dramatic fight between Alex's ex-fiancée and Spencer ensues.
While Alex promises to find Spencer at the Dutton family ranch in Bozeman, Montana, Schlaepfer is now pointing out a potentially worrisome story point for them to overcome in season two. (The Taylor Sheridan Yellowstone prequel has already been renewed.)

Having Spencer still not make it home to the Yellowstone by the end of 1923 season 1 certainly was an interesting and arguably risky move. But though Sheridan and company managed to pull off their long reunion tease, it's time to end the suspense now and give viewers the payoff they've been longing for.

Melissa Hastings was never pregnant with Ian's baby. She was sadly blackmailed by A to fake the entire thing. It was later revealed that Melissa actually was pregnant the summer Ali went missing. She and Ian had gone to Cape May to have an abortion, but she lost the baby before they even got there.
If you've watched 1923 you know that the reason that Spencer is in Africa on a veritable sabbatical instead of with his family at the Yellowstone Ranch is because of the PTSD that plagues him from his time as a soldier in World War I.
Spencer is the son of James and Margaret Dutton, who you might remember from the prequel series, 1883, and he's the nephew of Jacob Dutton (played by Harrison Ford). When he's first introduced in 1923, Spencer is working in Africa after serving in World War I until he receives a letter requesting that he return home.
The guess is that Teonna might be an ancestor of Jamie's, perhaps through her having a relationship with Jack Dutton, making Jamie a Dutton by blood and not just adoption. Indeed, Nieves herself raises this possibility with her remark about Teonna getting a Dutton love interest.
