Channing Tatum's 2022 film “Dog” is inspired by his own experience with his dog Lulu, but in contrast to his real-life tragic tale, he's made clear to audiences that the dog in “Dog” does not die.
*SPOILER* Throughout the movie the dog Lulu is supposed to euthanized at the end of the movie because she has just been through too much in the war but in the very end at the last second, it doesn't happen. The Dog does wear a muzzle sometimes but not in a in abusive way.

Is dog a sad ending?
“It's a good ending, just so everyone knows,” the Alabama native teased to Jimmy Kimmel. “Yeah, yeah, don't not see the movie just because you're afraid of the dog [dying].”
In real life, Gonker died just five years after the events depicted in the film, in 2003, at the aged of 11. Although Gonker was a labrador in the movie, in real life he was a Golden Retriever mix, which is a relatively similar-looking breed to a labrador.
Fielding moves in with his parents with Gonker. A few weeks later, Gonker is diagnosed with Addison's disease and needs a life-saving shot every month for the rest of his life. His best friend from college visits him a few weeks later, and they are out on a hiking trail with Gonker, who runs off chasing a fox.
And when, at the moment most had lost all hope, Gonker was found 15 days later and 111 miles away from where he'd gone missing, thousands shared in the Marshall family's joy. The story is now warming hearts in a Netflix film, Dog Gone, starring Rob Lowe, which has shot straight into the streamer's global top 10.

In the end in a feel good movie all has to be well. Happy endings are essential though it took us awhile to get there. It took a crisis to do it but boy and dog are reunited.
While the basic plot of Dog Gone mirrors the true story, some changes were made for the film. In the movie, Fielding Marshall (played by Johnny Berchtold) is a college senior when he adopts a yellow lab retriever and names it Gonker, and he does it to impress a girl.
However, Dog Gone still emotionally wrought – sometimes manipulatively so thanks to its score and heavy-handed dialogue – and this is your warning to grab a box of tissues before starting. Gonker might not die, but you will still probably cry.
