Galadriel and Elrond Were Never in Love - But They Do Have Another Connection. Lord of the Rings' Galadriel and Elrond were friends, confidants and allies for thousands of years.
Fans know from the later Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit tales, that Galadriel eventually finds, falls in love with, and marries Celeborn, the elf who accompanies her down the stairs when the fellowship first arrives in Lothlorien.
The Third Age. At the beginning of the Third Age, Elrond married Celebrían, daughter of Galadriel. They had three children: twin sons, Elladan and Elrohir, and a daughter, Arwen.
With that in mind, Galadriel and Sauron's longing gazes were a big stretch, at least in the context of romance. Still, The Rings of Power's proposal scene wasn't completely out of left field. Sauron seemed to genuinely feel a connection to her, and part of that came from sensing the darkness inside of Galadriel.
She was captured and tormented, receiving a poisoned wound. Her sons rescued her and she was physically healed by Elrond, but never fully recovered in mind or spirit, and no longer wished to stay in Middle-earth. She left for the Grey Havens and passed over the Great Sea the following year.
For those that haven't read Tolkien's work, it's easy to see why many audiences suspect Gandalf and Galadriel are in love. After all, many of their interactions in The Hobbit trilogy practically scream romance. However, their relationship remains purely platonic in Tolkien's source material.
Plus, he makes the compelling argument that while he lusts for power, she has a good heart and would help him remain good rather than turning to evil. But when it becomes clear to Galadriel that Halbrand/Sauron cannot tell the difference between “saving” and “ruling” Middle-earth, she rejects his proposal.
Thus, Galadriel's dark form in Jackson's The Lord of the Rings personified what would have occurred had the Lady of Lothlorien given in to temptation and taken the One Ring for herself. She would have succumbed to evil because the Ring was indomitable, even with her power.
Around FA 52 (FA as in First Age), Galadriel came to Doriath. Galadriel was one of the Ñoldor who came to Middle-earth wishing to see the lands and rule a realm of her own. She came with the second host of Elves from Aman with Fingolfin and Finrod. In Doriath, she and Celeborn fell in love and married.
Through her great-grandmother, Idril, Arwen was a descendant of King Turgon of the Noldor. Through her mother, she was the granddaughter of the Elf-queen Galadriel of Lothlórien. Through both of her parents, Arwen was a direct descendant of the ancient Elven House of Finwë.
We know precisely nothing about Legolas's mother. In the Hobbit movie trilogy, they had some lines that suggest that she was killed by orcs but that is entirely non-canon. We know that Legolas's father Thranduil is a Sindar Elf so we could probably assume his mother is as well.
Though neither is someone you'd wish to annoy, Galadriel is generally considered more powerful than Elrond in Lord of the Rings. Not only is she older than her Rivendell counterpart, but Galadriel witnessed the light from Valinor's Two Trees, giving her a mystic quality.
Celeborn. The Lord of Lothlórien and Galadriel's husband. Celeborn is hailed as one of the wisest Elves in Middle-earth, but it is clear that his wife Galadriel has the advantage, having been tutored by the Valar and the Maiar. Celeborn and Galadriel have two children together: a daughter, Celebrían, and a son, Amroth.
In the year 121 of the Fourth Age, after Aragorn's death, Arwen died of a broken heart at Cerin Amroth in Lórien, and was buried there one year after the death of Aragorn, to whom she had been wedded for 122 years. She was 2901 years old.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Vickers shared why he believes Sauron offered to make Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) his Queen in the Season 1 finale. "I think [Sauron] thinks that if [Galadriel] with him, he can affect his designs faster," Vickers said. "That's why he loved Morgoth.
In his notes, Tolkien remarks that Sauron saw Galadriel as his equal. Add that to the fact that she's untrusting of Sauron (yes, even when he's in his Annatar guise) and an unwavering, single-minded force, and it's more likely than not that Sauron feared Galadriel — or the potential she held to upend his plans.
Despite feeling some possible temptation from Sauron's offer to become his Dark Queen, Galadriel's denial of the Dark Lord shows she can't be so easily swayed. However, that doesn't mean Sauron still won't try to trick her into helping him gain the power he's destined to obtain in Middle-earth's Second Age.
Although this relationship may have happened with Galadriel's meeting or not, it's clear Gimli's love for her expedited his ease in befriending Legolas.
As previously stated, Gandalf is a Maia and is therefore superior to Elves regarding power. Still, this isn't to say that an elf couldn't develop enough skill and power to defeat a Maia. As a bearer of one of the Three Elven Rings (Nenya), Galadriel would have an edge against Maiar like Saruman and Radagast.
According to the Appendices of LOTR, Elrond's children, however, were given a choice: they could be immortal elves if they departed for the undying lands before or with their father, or else if they remained would be mortal. Arwen, by choosing to remain and to marry Aragorn, committed herself to mortality.
After a time, Galadriel and Celebrían passed through Khazad-dûm and dwelt in Rivendell. There, she met Elrond, who, though he loved her, said nothing about it. In TA 109, Elrond wedded Celebrían. She bore him twin sons, Elladan and Elrohir in TA 130, and then a daughter, Arwen in TA 241.
Galadriel is Arwen's grandmother. Galadriel's daughter Celebrian married Elrond and they had Arwen. Elrond was married to Celebrian. She was the daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn; thus Galadriel is Arwen's grandmother, not mother.
