With Suzanne providing assistance, Rowan gives birth to baby Lasher, who grants her great power, enough to solidify Cortland in stone and nearly strike Ciprien down with lightning.

An evil spirit called Lasher has haunted the Mayfair family for generations, seducing the witches and using their powers for his own sinister motives. While not much about Lasher is really changed from book to show, Spalding revealed that they came to cast Huston because he had a certain rock 'n roll je ne sais quoi.
They discover that Lasher is a completely different species, and that Rowan herself has a genetic abnormality, tetraploidy, or 92 chromosomes, which was probably what made Lasher's quasi-supernatural birth at all possible in the first place.
Lasher's ultimate goal in doing so was to create a witch so powerful that she could conceive a child that would be strong enough to hold Lasher's spirit and return him to flesh-and-blood.
Thora Birch guest stars as Gifford Mayfair, a self-deprecating tarot card reader and wannabe-bohemian who lately spends a lot of time at her lake house. Season 2 of “Mayfair Witches” is currently in production in New Orleans and will debut later in 2024.
In this week's episode, while sitting with Rowan at the Mayfair House during Deirdre's wake, Carlotta reveals that she was approached by Lasher when she was just eight years old. However, instead of being seduced by Lasher, Carlotta rejected him and has been trying to protect the women of the family ever since.
One theory as to why Lasher wants the 13th witch is that she is, in fact, his daughter. While Lasher has not revealed his true nature, he has behaved in ways that are associated with demons and could be one of the Devil's many forms in the Anne Rice series.
Deirdre was murdered by a professional assassin, which means that her death was no supernatural event. It was a very human contract killing -- and the most plausible suspect in the AMC series is the zealous Aunt Carlotta Mayfair. That does not mean Lasher is completely innocent, however.

Mayfair Witches is the second installment in AMC's Immortal Universe franchise — and it shares a few connections to the network's Interview With the Vampire series. Like Interview, Mayfair Witches is based on books by the late Anne Rice, who died at age 80 in December 2021.
