Sony's “Madame Web” is one of the biggest flops in comic book movie history. The Dakota Johnson-led tentpole has only grossed $40 million so far at the domestic box office, and its worldwide gross remains under the $100 million mark after three weekends of release.
If you thought “Morbius” was a flop, you're not gonna wanna watch “Madame Web.” The writing was cheesy, the timeline was hard to follow, the movie was too fast-paced and the acting was awful. Directed by S.J Clarkson and starring Dakota Johnson, “Madame Web” has got to be one of Marvel's worst-written films so far.
The film was panned by critics upon its release in February, and didn't fare much better with audiences as it only grossed $100 million worldwide against a rumoured production budget of $80 million, leaving the future of the franchise unclear.

Marketing was reported to be 60 million and the film may have actually cost 100M but even if we go with 80+60M then the movie still lost around 90M, which, as you said, is still less than what The Marvels lost. Well, the budget was reported to be 250-275M.
The bad news is that at that production and potential marketing budgets, Madame Web will likely need to make $150-200 million just to break even. To be considered a success for Sony, the film must make about double that, at $350-400 million. Suffice it to say, that doesn't look like it's going to happen.
The acting is lacking, the actors look as bored as you will feel. Script is bad, just some beyond silly lines, the story chops and changes so much your neck will hurt you, some bad CGI, and just boring action.
As envisioned in the comic books, Madame Web is not a villain. Instead, she's a hero who fittingly aids Spider-Man using her clairvoyant abilities. In the comics, Madame Web's real name is Cassandra Webb, and her psychic powers are due to her being a mutant like the X-Men.
Madame Web is a superhero movie about someone with precognitive powers: To the extent that you can actually understand what her powers are, it's that she can see the future and in some cases act to stop terrible events from happening.
As of February 2024, the four biggest movie flops of all time were Disney productions. "Turning Red" (2022), "Jungle Cruise" (2021), "Mars Needs Moms" (2011), and "Mulan" (2020) recorded losses of more than 140 million U.S. dollars at the global box office.
The worst element of the film is its screenplay, which will not surprise anybody who watched the trailer and heard the line: “He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders right before she died.” While that ridiculous line didn't end up in the actual movie, the script is still full of bizarre ...
Okay, so we're being a bit facetious with this one, but yes, we can assume the baby born at the end of Madame Web is none other than Spider-Man himself, Peter Parker. That being said, the timelines don't really add up...
Though nothing much is made of it, it's obvious to fans that this child is in fact Peter Parker, the future Spider-Man. Even though Madame Web is tangentially tied to Peter Parker by knowing Ben and Mary, there's no real narrative setup for a connection between Madame Web and Spider-Man.
It's pretty clear that whatever was happening with Ezekiel, it wasn't working for the plot. Or, plot points changed through reshoots and editing, and in an attempt to smooth over those changes, they changed his dialogue — but were not able to reshoot his scenes.

Madame Web's Aunt May reference is not the last nod to Peter Parker's life in the film. After the Aunt May Easter egg in Madame Web, the film shows Cassie attending a baby shower for Ben's sister-in-law. This woman is none other than Mary Parker, the mother of Peter Parker in Marvel Comics.
