Deepfake tech was used to replace over 30 uses of the F-word in the upcoming movie, "Fall." The director, Scott Mann, is also the co-CEO of the artificial-intelligence company Flawless. Rather than spend more money on reshoots, Mann utilized Flawless tech in order to achieve a PG-13 rating.
In gaining its PG-13 rating, the studio was justifiably concerned about the 30 F-words, yet not so much about the amount of gratuitous violence. A key aspect of Fall's narrative is Becky's struggle against the hungry vultures that surround her.
But “Fall,” a vertiginous white-knuckler about two young women who are in danger of plunging from the top of a 2,000-foot-tall radio tower, was rife with F-bombs — which would result in an R rating, cramping the box office take for the small-budget pic.
The ruling came to be that only one F-bomb could be used in a PG-13 movie, which meant that writers had to become more strategic when and if they placed it in a movie. This also meant that audiences would receive more iconic F-bomb moments in a film.
