Finding Neverland is based on the life of JM Barrie, author of Peter Pan and is inspired by true events. It is a charming movie set in London 1903, and relates the story of the relationship between Barrie and the widowed Sylvia Llewellyn Davies and her four sons.
Neverland is a fictional island featured in the works of J. M. Barrie and those based on them. It is an imaginary faraway place where Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, Captain Hook, the Lost Boys, and some other imaginary beings and creatures live.
In 1897, Barrie met and befriended the Llewelyn Davies family and he soon became a favourite with the five boys: George, Jack, Peter, Michael and Nico. It was the Llewelyn Davies boys who provided the inspiration for Peter Pan.
In 1903, following the dismal reception of his latest play, Little Mary, Sir James Matthew Barrie meets the widowed Sylvia and her four young sons (George, Jack, Peter and Michael) in Kensington Gardens, and a strong, close friendship develops among them.
In the final scene, which takes place on a park bench, Barrie promises to always be there for Peter and assures him that his mom has gone to Neverland. Peter collapses in Barrie's arms, crying, and both figures slowly fade from view, leaving just the park bench as the credits start to roll.

What happens to Sylvia in Finding Neverland?
Because Sylvia is too ill to attend the production, Barrie arranges to have an abridged production of it performed in her home. She dies shortly afterward, and Barrie finds that her will is to have him and her mother to look after the boys; an arrangement agreeable to both.
In Barrie's original works, the Lost Boys leave Neverland and grow up, while in the Disney films they are merely tempted to, but change their minds and choose to remain with Peter Pan. In Return to Never Land which takes place many years later, they are still with Peter and have remained children.
Kelsey Grammer starred as Charles Frohman and Laura Michelle Kelly reprised the role of Sylvia Llewelyn Davies. Previews began 15 March 2015, with the official opening on 15 April.
Of course, being fictional, Neverland doesn't actually exist. But the Turneffe Atoll is the only location on the planet that matches key aspects of the Peter Pan book and movies.
