James Cameron confirms there was never a nine-hour cut of Avatar 3, as rumors suggested. The director explains that his comments were misconstrued, and that Avatar 3, Avatar 4, and Avatar 5 represent nine hours of material in total, with each movie running about three hours.
In December 2022, shortly after Avatar: The Way of Water was released, it was stated that James Cameron's first cut of Avatar 3 had a running time of nine hours.
