Gizmo, also referred to as "Giz" by Billy Peltzer, is the main protagonist of the Gremlins franchise. He is a Mogwai who is the pet of Billy. He doesn't seem to have a single mean bone in his body, making him an Eternal, or Mogwai who refuses to be evil.
There are not any known genders however, every Mogwai has both specific gene patterns with the potential to create both male and female offspring. There has been no reported evidence of sexual reproduction in the Mogwai species, but they have shown traits of typical Male and Female personalities.
Though they don't look it, mogwai do actually have gender and are capable of normal reproduction. Mogwai born in this manner are usually more stable and benevolent, with a higher degree of souls.

How was Gizmo born?
Fans have always been curious where the cute fuzzball came from. Fortunately, the Max Original series revealed he originated in a region in China known as the Valley of Jade. While Gizmo the fearless warrior's tribe was shown (as well has how he ended up among mankind), it was never revealed how he was actually made.

Stripe was very hostile to Gizmo the Mogwai. His dislike for Gizmo may have been because he did not want the other Mogwai to refer to Gizmo as their leader because they were born from him.
