Godzilla is pink now. That's something that surprised many fans in the debut trailer for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, but its director has now made clear he isn't just chasing Barbie's box office success.
Godzilla's Pink Atomic Power Is A Result Of His Evolution
As revealed in Godzilla x Kong, Godzilla's completely revamped appearance was a direct result of another Titan's energy. Specifically, the pink upgrade came courtesy of Tiamat, one of the 11 unseen monsters mentioned in Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
In an interview with IGN, director Adam Wingard addressed Godzilla's form, saying the visual change wasn't made at random to spice up the kaiju's design. "I wanted it to be part of the major drive of the story, why Godzilla was getting this new look. And the pink colour itself, it's not random," Wingard said.
While it is confirmed to be temporary, it does open the door for Godzilla to evolve even further. It isn't even limited to him. Tiamat's appearance certainly implies other titans could achieve the same strength.
The Monsterverse could bring it back if Godzilla vs Kong 3 happens since he still had it at the end of the movie, but since Tiamat's power isn't naturally his, it's likely that it's not a permanent power-up.
