"Gremlins 2: The New Batch" is the 1990 sequel to the 1984 box office hit "Gremlins" which is one of my all-time favorite movies. The sequel is not as good as the original, but its not bad either. Here the filmakers did something different. They tried to make this one more of a comedy than the original.
As with all madness, there's a certain level of genius at work that elevates Gremlins 2: The New Batch into the rarified air of being superior to its predecessor, a fact so few '80s nostalgists realize. There is no denying that the original Gremlins movie is a 1980s Amblin classic with all that entails.
Like the first film, Gremlins 2: The New Batch is a live-action horror comedy film; however, Dante put effort into taking the sequel in new anarchistic directions. Gizmo, also referred to as "Giz" by Billy Peltzer, is the main protagonist of the Gremlins franchise. He is a Mogwai who is the pet of Billy. He doesn't seem to have a single mean bone in his body, making him an Eternal, or Mogwai who refuses to be evil.
After a period of time, the mogwai has now transformed into a scaly gremlin, which hatches from the cocoon. What happens with the cocoon is unknown, but it is possible that the hatched cocoon stays where it is like with insects that hatch from cocoons.
Stripe, later reincarnated as Mohawk, is the main antagonist of the Gremlins franchise. He is the leader of the original batch of Gremlins who wrecked havoc in Kingston Falls and was later reincarnated as a Gremlin called Mohawk as one of the four "New Batch" members in the Clamp Cable Network of New York.
