Before she can enter, she is confronted by Rapunzel, who has managed to somehow uncover the truth behind her upbringing, confidently announcing her realization that she's the lost princess and that Gothel isn't her real mother.
Mother Gothel is a vain, self-centered, manipulative, sinister, and shrewd woman who only cares about herself and her good looks, even willing to abandon her biological daughter Cassandra in favor of Rapunzel because of the latter's magic hair.
Gothel reluctantly releases her. However, Flynn unexpectedly cuts Rapunzel's hair, causing it to lose its magic and turn brown. Failing to salvage the hair, Gothel falls from the tower's window and disintegrates into dust.
