Pixar has fashioned a hilarious, incredibly imaginative, exciting, fabulous, family-friendly animated movie. MONSTERS, INC. not only shows that fun and friendship conquer fear, it also shows that love conquers them too.
It's true that the movie released by Walt Disney Pictures / Buena Vista is rated G by the MPA, but it has some sequences that might be scary for kids under the age of 4, or they should definetly watch it with a parent.
"Monsters, Inc." has too much genuine wit, characters too rich, a world with too much depth, and a story at once too coherent and too complicated, to be PRIMARILY a film for children. This is not to say children won't like it. Maybe they will. (Who can say?)
“Monsters, Inc.” doesn't simplify dialogue, cues or narrative for the kids, and it validates their fears. It draws their attention through the widely relatable fear of the monster in the closet or under the bed but doesn't establish monsters as amorphous evil things.
