Morbius is an upcoming superhero slasher horror film based on the titular Marvel Comics characters, produced by Columbia Pictures in association with Marvel and Tencent Pictures. Distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing, it is a follow-up to 2018's Venom and 2021's Morbius and is part of Sony's Marvel Universe.
Morbius' "I Am Venom" Line References In-Universe Events
This scene not only proves that Venom and Morbius take place in the same universe but also references Eddie Brock and Venom's actions in San Francisco, which have made them fugitives by the end of Let There Be Carnage.
Morbius. Technically, you could watch most of Morbius after either Venom movie, as there's only one reference to the wider universe. FBI agent Alberto Rodriguez (Al Madrigal) talks about "that thing in San Francisco", which is where both Venom movies are set.
While the film does take place in the same universe as Venom, it isn't necessary to watch any movies before Morbius. However, it is recommended that you are familiar with Michael Keaton as the vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Morbius is not in the MCU, but adjacent to the MCU and features an MCU character. The film stands apart from the Marvel Cinematic Universe that counts the Avengers among its heroes, and instead takes place in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, which so far also includes Venom and Venom 2.
Is Morbius in the MCU? No. The new Morbius movie is made by Sony, in association with Marvel Studios. To cut a long story short, a mutual back-scratching deal allows Spider-Man-related Marvel characters to appear in Sony's superhero movies and vice-versa.
Dr. Michael Morbius, Ph. D., M.D., better known as simply Morbius, is an anti-heroic antagonist from Marvel Comics, serving as an enemy to Spider-Man, Blade, and Ghost Rider. He was a biogenetic scientist who was dying of a blood-destroying disease.
Judging by the mentions of a potential team-up in the post-credit scene, it's not unreasonable to assume that Vulture and Morbius were intended to be part of a theatrical version of Spider-Man's villainous group, the Sinister Six.
The website's critics consensus reads, "Cursed with uninspired effects, rote performances, and a borderline nonsensical story, this dreary mess is a vein [sic] attempt to make Morbius happen." It ranks as the 18th worst-reviewed superhero movie on the site.
During another battle with Spider-Man, Morbius succeeds in feeding on a sample of the hero's radioactive blood. By chance, Morbius is then hit by a lightning bolt at the same time.
Blade and Morbius had a similar relationship at one point in comic lore, even as it's been heavily redacted and is no longer accepted canon. Blade was created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan, and first appeared in 1973's Tomb of Dracula #10.
Mobius appears in Loki, portrayed by Owen Wilson. In the episode "Science/Fiction", Mobius is revealed to be a temporal variant of Don, a jet ski salesman and single father-of-two, who also cameos in the series finale "Glorious Purpose".
However, when Peter ran away to change into his Spider-Man costume, a zombie version of Spider-Man, who was transported to their world, took his place and battled the Sinister Six. Spider-Man then proceeded to kill and zombify them.
The Sinister Six appear in Marvel: Future Fight, consisting of Mysterio disguised as Doctor Octopus, the Vulture, the Rhino, Kraven the Hunter, Sandman, and the Lizard. They collaborate with A.I.M., but are eventually defeated by Spider-Man and his allies.
Blade remained active in New Orleans, defeating the vampire Ulysses Sojourner and his own former ally, Morbius, who was under Sojourner's mental thrall. Blade followed Morbius to New York, where, while teamed with Spider-Man, Blade was bitten by Morbius.
In his vampiric state, Morbius' face changes to look more bat-like. His bones also become partially hollow which allow him to ride wind currents as if he's flying. His new form also gives him heightened senses as well as increased stamina, speed, strength and durability.
While Spider-Man: No Way Home is part of Marvel Studios' franchise, notably one of the MCU's best-ranked films, Morbius falls under the banner of the Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSU). This franchise consists of Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Morbius, and Madame Web.
It's certainly not as bad as critics think it is. It's not a perfect movie but it's not the worst either. I did think that the film had weird and confusing camera work. The storyline and villain were also very predictable; however, they were still interesting.
Plot. In a private hospital based in Greece, a young Michael Morbius meets Lucien, a kid sharing the same blood illness as Morbius and who Morbius names Milo. Fixing Milo's blood pump, hospital director and adoptive father Emil Nicholas applies Morbius to a medical school in New York.
