Rogue's origin remains one of the interesting aspects of her character. Her birth parents, Owen and Priscilla, abandoned their daughter at an early age. Mystique and Destiny found her, and Rogue joined an extremely robust foster family tree that connected her to the X-Men and the team's deadliest foes.
What is the relationship between Mystique and Rogue?
Rogue has a complex relationship with Mystique, whom she regards as her mother, some of the time. In her own way, Mystique loves Rogue as well, but that doesn't stop her from exploiting Rogue's powers as a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.
Eventually, Mystique and Destiny reunited and took in a young Rogue, who was known only as Anna Marie at the time. After raising Rogue together in an isolated part of Mississippi, Destiny and Mystique formed a new incarnation of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.
This visual aspect of Rogue's appearance has been consistently portrayed in every adaptation of the character, however, in the 2000 X-Men live action film, Rogue is shown to initially have all brown hair, developing the permanent white streak after being forced to absorb a significant amount of power from Magneto.
The U.S. Government acts on their intelligence regarding Mystique, and destroys all of the alternate identities that she established over the years and confiscate the money she and Destiny had hidden away. The loss of her powers and her freedom causes her to lash out at everyone around her.
Who did Mystique have a baby with? Mystique gave birth to Graydon Creed with Sabretooth, Nightcrawlee with Azazel, Raze Darkholme with Wolverine, Charles Xavier the II with Professor X and Gloria Brickman with Ralph Brickman. Also adopted Rogue with Irene Adler.
However, 2023's X-Men Blue: Origins revealed that his parents were actually Mystique and her wife Destiny / Irene Adler; Mystique having shapeshifted into a male form to conceive him, with Destiny being the one who experienced the pregnancy and gave birth to him.
Gambit. Remy has been the main love interest of Rogue's throughout the years. They have had many ups and downs due to among other things Rogue's inability to touch and Remy's secretiveness about his past.
X-Men '97 continues the classic X-Men: The Animated Series, with Magneto's immunity to Rogue's powers teasing major story developments. Rogue's power absorption struggles explored in X-Men '97, hinting at past connections, potential romance, and a mutant utopia storyline.
That changed when Destiny decided she wanted “a child conceived in love” with Mystique. To that end, Mystique changed her genetics for a night, so she could impregnate the woman she loved. Biologically, Destiny was Nightcrawler's mother, and Mystique was his father.
It is eventually revealed that Mystique had two sons: the now-deceased anti-mutant politician Graydon Creed and Rogue's long-time teammate, Nightcrawler. Rogue and Nightcrawler consider themselves to be siblings, although the revelation has not particularly altered their friendship.
Magneto has proven himself to be unusually resilient against Rogue's power, allowing him to remain effectively unharmed when she touched him in battle. This is likely due to the constant electromagnetic force field he maintains around his body, which insulates him from her abilities.
During the same time, she is wooed by the demonic-looking mutant Azazel. Raven falls in love with him and shows him her true form, after which he names her “Mystique”; however, Azazel abandons her after seemingly getting her pregnant (Mystique actually shapeshifts into a man to have a child with Destiny).
At some point, Rogue joined the X-men and grew close to Wolverine who viewed her as a daughter. Rogue was the most devastated when Logan wanted to leave the team.
As it turns out, Mystique used her mutant shapeshifting powers to change not just her appearance, but even her reproductive organs, allowing her to impregnate Destiny, who then physically gave birth to Nightcrawler nine months later.
Azazel quickly overpowers the team and obliges the request because of the ties Mystique has with both him and Sabretooth, as she is the mother of the sons of both men (Azazel is the father of her son Nightcrawler, and Sabretooth is the father of her son Graydon Creed).
Rogue's father's name is Owen and her mother's name is Priscilla. Rogue's name is Anna Marie and we still don't know her last name. Mystique is her foster mother.
Even though Mystique kept using Rogue, she did show some genuine feelings for Rogue. She tried to get close to her (via Risty), but failed. After that Mystique used Rogue in helping a mutant named Mesmero seal the final key into Apocalypse's release.
Unusual Features. As Mystique is a shapeshifter, she most often has no distinguishing features, although her true form is that of a young woman with red hair, yellow eyes, and dark blue skin.
Mystique's powers are revealed to be just short of an Omega-level mutant, and she has the potential to surpass her last limitation and become a god. Mystique is Nightcrawler's father, not Azazel, and her control over her cellular and genetic structure is instinctive.
Raven Darkholme, known as Mystique, is a former member of The Brotherhood Of Mutants as well as a mercenary operating for the C.I.A and Charles Xavier's official foster-sister. She is Magneto's oldest Brotherhood companion and former lover and the mother of Nightcrawler aka Kurt Wagner.
She later told Wolverine that before had his memory wiped that they were lovers but that he is no longer the man she loved. She later left and rejoined Magneto.
In all honestly, though, Mystique is a shapeshifter who has the power to look however the heck she wants. Still, it looks like the deadly mutant also learned a thing or two about makeup in the years between Days of Future Past and Apocalypse.
