According to the actor, Fox Searchlight Pictures was trying to adapt a sequel despite the disinterest of the original director Jared Hess. Heder didn't want to continue the project without Hess– so the project never happened.
"This is bad," the film seems to say, "but we could do worse." And that is perhaps the fundamental purpose of the movie: a good life can be found anywhere. I've heard some say, and taken this view as well, that we don't laugh at Napoleon cruelly but with pity because he's how we perceive ourselves.

As per Napoleon's ID, the film takes place during the 2004-05 school year. And yet, the movie is brimming with elements of the '80s and '90s. That speaks to Kip's dial-up modem, the Moon Boots, Deb's side ponytail, Napoleon's Walkman, and more.
Later, Uncle Rico attempts to sell breast enhancing products to Rex's wife, Starla. Rex walks in and finds Uncle Rico in a very awkward position. Rex then beats up Uncle Rico, and breaks his left arm.
Preston, Idaho, serves as the primary setting for Napoleon Dynamite, with many key scenes filmed in and around the town. The choice to film in Preston was natural for Jared Hess, who based much of the film on his own experiences growing up there.
