The Nun explored the origins of Valak and introduced some great characters who will be returning for the sequel. Since The Nun II is directly connected with its predecessor due to a few of the same characters, it is important that you refresh your memory and know what exactly happened in The Nun.
By the movie's conclusion, Frenchie (who reveals his name as Maurice) is unknowingly possessed by the demon Valak. The sequel sees Sister Irene discover Valak's possession of Frenchie and supposedly free him from the demonic force.
Sister Irene is now happily living in a new convent in France. She has maintained her steadfast faith, even though she has seen darkness that her fellow sisters couldn't even imagine. She's particularly close to Sister Debra (Storm Reid), who lacks faith and does not seem to see the point in their callings.
The ban was prompted by a viral tweet that cautioned anyone who hates jump scares or had anxiety to look away and turn down the volume when they saw an ad … with the volume being turned down and nothing else. The ad in question is clearly designed to freak out the viewer as much as possible.
The Nun 2 is not based on any true stories, allowing the filmmakers to create a fictional plot that enhances the scare factor and character development. While The Nun 2 is not based on true events, it does have connections to real-life demons, people, and mythological figures, adding an interesting element to the film.
As she's being burned, Irene realizes her abilities and her visions of the past mean that she's a direct descendant of Saint Lucy, and her understanding of that is one of the things that gives Irene the strength to overcome the demon nun in their final confrontation.
All that stands in the demon nun's way is Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga). Valak is after the eyes of Saint Lucy, patron saint of the blind, in order to restore the power that was taken from the demon when it was an angel rejected by God.
Valak appears in multiple forms throughout the Conjuring movies, mainly taking the shape of a Catholic nun with eerie features. However, it has also appeared as the Crooked Man and its original form, Valak the Defiler.

The film also strongly suggests that Lorraine Warren comes from the same lineage. This connection to Saint Lucy explains Irene and Lorraine's physical similarity and their supernatural abilities while further teasing the possibility of the pair appearing together in Last Rites.
But Valak is a powerful foe and won't be stopped so easily. A terrifying showdown between good and evil ensues during which Valak ends up with the eyes and uses their power to lift Irene into the air and set her aflame. But Irene won't burn, revealing that she is also a descendant of St. Lucy.
Sister Irene from The Nun is a descendent of St. Lucy as is Lorraine from Annabelle. This family connection is why Valek wants both of these women dead.
