Although the character Rafiki from The Lion King is often referred to as a baboon, the colors on his face indicate that he is actually a mandrill. Males have red and blue muzzles and similarly colored rear ends.
Rafiki is modeled after the mandrill (Mandrillus sphinx), which is the largest species of monkey in the world. Rafiki is identifiable as a mandrill due to the distinctive colorations of his face, a hallmark of male members of the species.

Is Simba a monkey?
Simba is a male lion. He is the king of Pride Rock who succeeded Scar. He is the son of Mufasa and Sarabi, and the mate of Nala, with whom he has a son, Kion, and a daughter, Kiara.
Because director Julie Taymor felt that the story lacked the presence of a strong female, Rafiki was changed into a female mandrill. The role was originated on Broadway by Tsidii Le Loka, who was nominated for a Tony Award in 1998 for her performance. Rafiki's role is expanded in the musical.
The scene refers to the ancient tradition of Hebrew high priests and European monarchs who anointed royalty by spreading (or pouring) oil on a person's forehead.
