"Scream VI" earned its R rating and it is the right call. It is similar to other films in the franchise, especially with the language. It's pretty spot on with earlier installments. Notable differences from other franchise entries are less sex and sexual references and elevated gore and violence.
Why was Scream 3 censored? Unlike the previous Scream films, there was an increased emphasis on comedic elements in this installment; the violence and horror were reduced in response to increased public scrutiny about violence in media, following the Columbine High School massacre.

Is Scream 3 the worst?
While critic and audience score data does support that Scream 3 is technically the worst, it's also possible to think that there aren't truly any bad movies in the Scream franchise.
But don't be lulled by the star power and satire: The violence here is brutal, intense, and gory. Though the thrilling pace, high school drama, and steady jolts will likely keep young audiences watching, this movie is best for older teens and adults.
And yes, the famous killer Ghostface (who is often played by a different actor each time) will return to cause havoc on Sydney and her friends, as well as the newcomers to this film. “Scream” will be bloody and horrific. It's a rated-R film that you shouldn't bring your children to.
Profanity here is more graphic than the gore. References to other movies. Parents need to know that while there's less extreme bloodshed here than in the other Scream features, stabbings and throat-slittings are still abundant, matched with (sometimes exceeded by) the swearing.
Scream 7 is officially happening, but fans have been stunned by two unexpected exits from the new movie. Both Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, who played sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter in Scream (2022) and Scream VI, won't be returning for the new movie.

Tons of slasher-movie violence. Stabbings, head smashings, bludgeonings, cars used as weapons, shootings, impalings, trapping someone in a fire. Mangled, beheaded corpses shown. Teens are killed, as is a young child.
Was there a discussion about calling it Scream 5 rather than just Scream? KW: Well, it was always Scream 5 because it's the fifth one. So I think we just threw that name out, but I don't think they ever seriously were going to call it a Scream 5. I don't think anybody wanted to see the number five after something.
Scream 6 put a new spin on the franchise, as there were not one but several Scream 6 killers, the most of any Scream film, all working together to kill each victim in their unique way. The film has a total of five killers, including two that were introduced in Scream's iconic opening scene.
Scream 6 originally included a scene with Detective Wayne Bailey standing over Quinn's "dead body," but it was cut to avoid giving away the twist that Quinn and Bailey were Ghostface killers.
Very bloody and disturbing. There are many scenes where the killer attacks his victims, but he is also hit with fists, knees and feet as the victims defend themselves. Severe. Many other murder or attack victims are somewhat to extremely bloody and by the end nearly everyone is covered in their or someone else's blood.
M.O. Ghostface first appeared in Scream (1996) as a disguise used by teenagers Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) and Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard), during their killing spree in the fictional town of Woodsboro.
