“Peter Pan & Wendy” isn't a complete failure, but nor does this return to Neverland pass that test; rather, it's another case of a Disney production that – unlike the beloved and venerable story that inspired it – never truly takes flight.
Peter Pan & Wendy's Practical Sets Were Too Realistic
It was an admirable idea, and some parts of the movie looked great (the pirate ship was awesome), but on the whole, the film just looked kind-of drab. It lacked the magical, otherworldly feel that Neverland should evoke.
Why did Wendy and Peter Pan didn't end up together?
The Peter Pan & Wendy ending implies that Peter might decide to grow up one day, but he is not yet ready to go back to where he came from or have a new mother. He would rather return to Captain Hook, who is his family now. Hook is still Peter's oldest friend, even if the two have been at odds for years.
It leads to Wendy taking Peter's Lost Boys back to England, where they're adopted by her family. Peter, however, doesn't stay because he's still torn over how he ran away -- after hating how his mom tried to instill discipline. The film ends with him back in Neverland on the ship, with Hook looking up.
Peter Pan & Wendy seems afraid to let Peter be any kind of hero, which makes his eventual mopeyness more dispiriting than insightful. There's no point in undercutting the fun if you've already excised all the fun. The problem with Peter Pan & Wendy is all too often one of subtraction, not reinvention.

Was Hook a lost boy?
The new Peter Pan & Wendy confirms the connection between Captain Hook and Peter goes further back than Peter, causing the pirate to lose his hand. Captain Hook was the first lost boy in Neverland, and he and Peter were best friends.

In this Afterthought Wendy has grown up and married, although it's not known whom she married, and has a daughter, Jane. When Peter returns looking for Wendy, he does not understand at first that Wendy is no longer a young girl, as he has no notion of time when in Neverland.
It is also revealed Wendy married one of the Lost Boys, although this is not mentioned in the novel, and it is never revealed which one she did marry (in the original draft of the play, it is mentioned that she married Tootles, although Barrie omitted this before publication).
Some are spamming the film with negative reviews either because the cast includes non-white actors such as Peter Pan and Tinker Bell or because there are some girls included in The Lost Boys. However, the bulk of the negative reviews are coming from people who simply didn't like the film for one reason or another.
This problem seemed to come from dialogue that felt forced and a bit too on the nose, even for a children's movie. The real disappointment comes from Alexander Molony's performance as Peter Pan. His acting lacked magic, fun, and the childlike whimsy that inspires Wendy and her siblings to take this adventure with him.
