Roy Batty is considered one of the most sympathetic villains in all fiction, due to his backstory, and his final moments, in where he gives one of the most famous monologues in movie history before dying.
In a way, he's not a hero, since the replicants he's killing (while murderous) aren't really bad guys. At least, they're not any worse than the evil Tyrell Corporation. But he's not exactly an anti-hero, either, since he gains in awareness and improves as a person before the movie's end.

If Marlowe seems like the obvious bad guy in this situation, it's because he was–and so was Deckard in the original.
