Director Ben Wheatley says his new shark movie is more about “summer thrills” than “gory thrills”. But consider The Meg 2's 12A rating due warning. Legs will kick. Teeth will clack.
Meg 2: The Trench is an action-adventure, science fiction movie. The movie contains sustained violence and threat from very large, scary creatures and is therefore not suitable for children under 12. Parental guidance is also recommended for children aged 12-13, due to the high level of violence.
Final Judgment. Tough call, honestly. The Meg has a giant prehistoric shark and Jason Statham, and yet it's still only fitfully entertaining. In bare description, it's the crazier movie, but it's also kind of a slog, never as scary or silly as it ought to be.

Is The Meg scary for kids?

Age Appropriate For: 12+. This shark-attack blockbuster isn't really gory or bloody, but is more of an action-comedy, with some jump scares involving the shark, some shots of its teeth, some fights between sharks and people, and sharks eating other animals and people.

I understand that some kids are more sensitive to other things and that's why common sense made the little things seem big. I said 12+ but really it doesn't matter. If you think you or your kid are mature enough to handle swearing or violence then I say go for it.

It's now been revealed that the film, which is PG-13 in the US , was originally designed to be more graphic, but had some gory content erased in an attempt to lure in a younger audience – a tactic that has paid off.
Most of the elements were very predictable from the beginning. That's not always a bad thing because most people like the predictability and knowing where a film is headed. Overall, not bad for an early January released PG-13 horror movie.
There is definitely more blood than Jurassic Park but it's a similar pace to the films 4-6. It's pretty funny - doesn't take its self too seriously. The dog does not die. The romance was quite light and bearable for a 9 year old.

While The Meg's premise is simple, and you can totally watch the new sequel without seeing the first film, why would you rid yourself of the blissful occasion of watching Jason Statham beat up a giant shark not once, but twice?

This movie is highly known to have made many people stay out of the water during its original release.
