However, in choosing the Lament Configuration and living with regret over the Lazarus Configuration, which would resurrect her brother, Riley not only gets a satisfying selfish-to-selfless character arc, but she also redeems herself by refusing to run away from the consequences of her actions.
Let down by her choice — or lack thereof — the Priest (the original Hellraiser's Pinhead) announces that she has, by default, chosen the Lament configuration, which means she will live with the regret of harming her loved ones for the rest of her life.
But while Riley wants her brother, Matt, back after he got sacrificed by the puzzle box, Voight wants the configurations solved so he can get a gift from the Cenobites' dark god. It puts them at opposite ends of the spectrum, with Riley eventually becoming more selfless and letting her hunger go.

The Cenobites are disfigured, sexless, sadomasochistic entities tasked with capturing whoever solved the riddle of the demonic puzzle box known as Lament Configuration and submitting them to extreme physical torture, an act meant to reveal all of the hidden pleasures of intense pain.
The original book that it's based on, The Hellbound Heart, was suggestive of a female Pinhead, and the comic books also explored the idea. There's also plenty of fan art, wonderful works that all theorized the possibility of Pinhead as a woman. So it only felt appropriate to us.

The six configurations of the box represent its six gifts: Lament ("life"), Lore ("knowledge"), Lauderant ("love"), Liminal ("sensation"), Lazarus ("resurrection") and Leviathan ("power").
