He warns Scott Lang that he's the only one who can "stop what's coming," e.g. the other Kang variants. So might he have been seeking to become the one true Kang, killing all the other versions of himself to stop them from messing with the multiverse and restoring a single timeline where he's in charge?
Janet argued that what he did was starting a war and all he wanted is to wipe away any universe that poses a threat to him, calling him a monster again. Kang, however, claimed that he was merely a conqueror, and he must burn down the old world to build a new one in its place.
Kang is his own worst enemy, constantly trying to prevent the future or undo the past. By doing so, he inadvertently creates variants of himself who sometimes hinder his world-conquering goals. Such variants include Immortus, Rama-Tut, Iron Lad, Victor Timely, Baby Kang, and the Council of Kangs.
The Kang at the heart of this story isn't content to rule the world or even a universe. He wants his universe to be the only one so he's sending his agents to wreck other universes in cluding the one where your player characters live.
During this memorable scene, Kang the Conqueror goads Ant-Man by suggesting he has killed variants of the Avengers throughout his travels, including "the one with the hammer." This threat made Kang the Conqueror seem like a true danger to the heroes of the MCU's Multiverse Saga.

However, their adventure gave Kang the insight he needed to determine that Conan was far too dangerous to be left alive, not to mention the impetus to take action against the perceived threat at hand.
Kang is a human, so he isn't naturally more powerful than Thanos, but his presence throughout the multiverse makes him a far stronger opponent than the MCU Thanos who snapped away half of all life in Infinity War.
He also ensures that some of the technology Kang will need gets invented (Tony's time travel machine). As he gamed this particular fight over and over, maybe more than 15 million times, He Who Remains chose this specific set of events. He caused Heimdall, Loki, Gamora, Black Widow, and Iron Man to die.

However, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's end-credits scene confirms that the Council of Kangs did indeed unite against him, and presumably any rogue Kangs just like him, despite seeming to be a corrupt group of villains themselves.
Prior to his appearance in Quantumania, though, Majors made his MCU debut in the Season 1 finale of Loki, playing one (of many) variants of his villain Kang the Conqueror named He Who Remains.

Stepping into the Citadel at the End of Time, Loki and Sylvie meet He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors), a version of time-hopping comic villain Kang the Conqueror. In the comics, Kang is a baddy from the 31st century who has faced off against the Avengers many times (and in many incarnations) since his 1960s debut.
He Who Remains, the first Kang variant in the MCU, was not a villain but actually had noble intentions in maintaining the "Sacred Timeline" to prevent timeline chaos.

Eventually, Captain America defeats Kang before Ravonna uses his time crystal to regress him to an infant. In the post-credits, an elderly Kang joins Ravonna, Cosmo the Spacedog, Man-Thing, and the Supreme Intelligence in warning Captain America, Captain Marvel, and Iron Man of a new threat.

Given the involvement of time-travel, Thanos and Eros recruit the help of Kang, and Thanos ensures that he's put in his place immediately. The Mad Titan makes it abundantly clear that Kang is to refer to him as 'Lord Thanos', and Kang obeys.
Against Dormammu, Thanos without the Infinity Stones is already dead; it's only a matter of time. But Thanos with the stones? It all depends on where the battle is fought. In the Dark Dimension, Dormammu can win nearly any fight.
Thanos isn't a cosmic being; instead, he's just another mortal who's very hard to kill. Therefore, Korvac is someone who is stronger than Thanos and sits above him in the pecking order.
