For their heroism in destroying the Death Star, Han Solo and Luke Skywalker receive the Medal of Yavin from Leia Organa in a ceremony on Yavin 4. Decades later, Maz Kanata gives Chewbacca the medal once worn by Han, which Leia was holding when she died.
Sometimes, fans of Star Wars can be so disappointed with the story they get is the one they hoped for, and they dismiss important moments for the characters they love. Maz passing on the Yavin medal to Chewbacca is a lovely touch.
The ancient smuggler queen was eager to see her boyfriend Chewbacca – and curious what favor Han needed this time. When Han asked her for help getting BB-8 to the Resistance, Maz said the journey wasn't hers to take – it was Han who had to return to Leia Organa after their long years apart.
Although, the two didn't really like each other at first, Yoda and Yaddle eventually grew very close, and over time their relationship even blossomed into a long lasting romance until Yoda's own death. Does Chewbacca have a baby?
Chewbacca had a wife named Mallatobuck and a son named Lumpawaroo. During the Imperial Era, Chewbacca was enslaved by Trandoshans. "Malla" and their son "Waroo" were also enslaved by the Galactic Empire and were put into an Imperial slave labor camp on their homeworld of Kashyyyk.
During the Rebels celebration following its victory on Exegol, Kanata gave Chewbacca Han's Medal at their base on Ajan Kloss. Maz told Chewbacca that Han would have wanted Chewy to have it after Solo's death. Chewbacca was extremely touched by her gesture, and accepted it willingly.
As Wookiees had good relations with Yoda, they welcomed the Jedi Master and clone troopers to Kashyyyk, their homeworld. During one of the Clone Wars' final battles, Chewbacca fought against Separatist droids alongside Republic forces -- until the execution of Order 66.
Around the same time, in an interview recorded just a few weeks after the first Star Wars movie hit theaters, Lucas explained, “Chewbacca wasn't given a medal because medals don't really mean much to Wookiees. They don't really put too much credence in them. They have different kinds of ceremonies.
In his initial designs for Chewbacca, McQuarrie drew clothes on, including a flak jacket and shorts. Lucas always took them out, because he wanted his hero au naturel.
What happened to Chewbacca after rise of Skywalker?
When the war finally came to a close, Chewbacca returned home to Kashyyyk with his family. After Solo's son Ben, turned to the dark side and destroyed Skywalker's new generation of Jedi, Chewbacca reunited with his old friend and the two spent many years as smugglers once more.
Wookiees had an average lifespan of 400 standard years, and they appeared not to age over a span of fifty years. Their lifespans dramatically decreased due to the harsh working conditions in the spice mines of Kessel. During their prime growing years, Wookiees were often hungry, forcing them to eat whenever they could.
She would certainly have known of him and the Jedi Council. She's marginally older than Yoda and in his 800+ years and her 1,000+ years, their paths were almost certainly to have crossed (him, being a prominent Jedi and her a pirate & black marketeer).

She was a 1000 years old smuggler and a collector who came back to her castle in Takodana to live her last days in peace. Rey felt something odd in the castle. She heard some voices calling her, driving her down to the basement. She found that iconic lightsaber that Luke once used to bring back the Republic order.
Traditionally, yellow lightsabers are associated with Jedi Sentinels, who balance their combat skills with a strong focus on exploration and practical application of the Force. This choice reflects Rey's well-rounded training and her determination to maintain balance in the Force.
And that's why mere minutes later a character literally says "he must have been on another transport." It's storytelling at its laziest. Later in the film, it's clearly established that Rey can feel Chewbacca's presence on a ship from far away, and she learns that he's still alive.
Given the rarity of his species in the galaxy, along with the fact that the only other two known members of Grogu's species were both living in the Temple when he was born, it seems likely that Grogu is the child of Yoda and Yaddle and was born to help preserve their rare species.
