What problem did the film crew have while filming The Revenant?
Weather Conditions Were Not The Best
Because they were shooting in the mountains for the majority of the shoot, the weather was terribly cold, even freezing at times. Some actors had to get into cold rivers, and DiCaprio himself claimed that he endured "possible hypothermia constantly."
Plot. In late 1823, fur trapper Hugh Glass guides Captain Andrew Henry's trappers through the territory of the present-day Dakotas. While he and his half-Pawnee son, Hawk, are hunting, the company's camp is attacked by an Arikara war party which is seeking to recover its Chief's abducted daughter, Powaqa.
John Fitzgerald is a member of a group of trappers and hunters hunting for pelts in the unsettled wilderness in 1823. Their group is attacked by Arikara Indians, with many casualties. During the retreat, he saves the life of the young Jim Bridger who is almost drowned by an Arikara.
'The Revenant' is as much as a morality tale as it is a tale of the utility of revenge. Two men, one whose world has been ripped apart due to the loss of his wife and son, and another man who fears losing his money, his fur pelts, and his life to Arikara attack are brought together in a struggle of good against evil.

In the conclusion of the film, our protagonist Hugh Glass takes one last glance at the camera. My theory is that the camera (much like Hugh's wife) represented Death. And in his final moments, his final breaths, he looks at the one thing chasing him throughout the entire movie: Death.
Similarly, Fitzgerald is both the clear antagonist of The Revenant—villainous in his abandonment of another white man to the wilderness and his murder of that man's son—and sympathetic, even if in limited fashion, due to his scarred past and his tenuous present.
Glass reportedly spared Fitzgerald's life because he would be killed by the army captain for killing a soldier of the United States Army. However, the captain asked Fitzgerald to return the stolen rifle to Glass, and before departing Glass warned Fitzgerald never to leave the army, or he would still kill him.
The chief grabs Fitzgerald and kills him with his knife. They spare Glass since Powaqa tells them that Glass freed her. Although he has gotten his revenge, Glass is alone once again, wandering through the cold land.
Glass was a trapper in South Dakota, where he was mauled by a grizzly bear and left for dead by his companions. Fueled by revenge and the will to survive, he crawled for 6 weeks to the nearest settlement, Fort Kiowa, near present-day Chamberlain.
Healed, Glass saves Powaqa, but they encounter the Arikawa. To avoid them, Glass drives his horse over a cliff, killing the horse but miraculously not himself.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, some of Alejandro G. Iñárritu's film is actually based on a 2002 work of fiction about Glass' journey. But the main plot points of the film are real: Yes, Hugh Glass existed, he did get attacked by a bear and survived.
What happened to the snow during the filming of The Revenant?
Due to production being behind schedule, the snow melted during the location shoot in Canada before filming was complete. With summer rapidly approaching, there was no choice but to relocate the entire production to southern Argentina, where there were similar wintry conditions.
But many years before DiCaprio, 41, risked hypothermia and ate raw bison liver while shooting "The Revenant," he was the unknown child actor who ran for cover on the set of "The New Lassie" when an episode featured a rattlesnake, according to the director, Renny Temple.
The most obvious explanation would be to mislead Glass about who killed the captain. While The Revenant is based on a true story, many of the details in regards to the actual story of Hugh Glass are embellished to create a compelling story of revenge, perseverance, and forgiveness.
At some point, his wife was killed; Glass' son is a teenager and now his hunting partner, both working as guides for a group of trappers in the Dakotas. This kind of sets him apart from the rest of the men, and we get the feeling that he and his son are seen as hunters and guides, but not one of the group somehow.
If Glass did live with the Pawnee, it is possible he had a Pawnee wife and child. However, that is pure speculation. He certainly had no son on the Henry expedition, and at most Glass lived for 3-4 years with the Pawnee, so would not have had a son of Hawk's age by 1823.
Because this condition of director Alejandro Gonzáles Iñárritu forced a whole film crew to shoot all the scenes in a time window of only two hours per day. In the freezing wilderness at minus 25 degrees. The conditions for the actors and the entire crew could not have been any tougher.
Iñérritu, who took home the award for best director, conceded that DiCaprio had to put up with more of the chilly weather during filming, between tramping through the snow and shivering as a bear attack victim, but DiCaprio says it was just as bad for the entire crew.
Leonardo DiCaprio has taken things to the next level for his role in The Revenant. To prepare, the actor not only camped out in the wilderness: he slept in an animal carcass, ate raw bison and went for regular swims in frozen rivers.
Glass' son, Hawk, attacked Fitzgerald when Fitzgerald was trying to kill Glass. Remember—Glass agreed to let Fitzgerald put him out of his misery. Fitzgerald then killed Hawk, somewhat begrudgingly, because of the fact that they were being chased by bloodthirsty Natives (I'll get to them in a minute…)
Hugh Glass was left for dead after a bear attack in August 1823. Although he reportedly had a broken leg, a ripped scalp, a punctured throat, and numerous gashes, he traveled some 200–300 miles (322–483 km) over the next two months to safety at Fort Kiowa in present-day South Dakota.
No, there was no bear in The Revenant. If so, Leonardo would be dead, definitely! One of the most memorable scenes in the movie is the incredible bear attack on Leonardo DiCaprio's character Hugh Glass. The scene is intense, violent, and, according to Fisk, completely done though stunt men and CGI.
Another interesting factoid is that the director wanted a shot of Glass witnessing an avalanche as part of his epic journey. Rather than creating this using CGI, the crew used planes to drop explosives on the mountain and trigger an avalanche, and then captured it on film using a crane on Fortress Mountain.
