It seems as though Wolfsheim wants Nick to know that he found Gatsby; he even says he "made him." He explains it further: “I raised him up out of nothing, right out of the gutter. I saw right away he was a fine-appearing, gentlemanly young man, and when he told me he was at Oggsford I knew I could use him good.

What happens at lunch in The Great Gatsby?
The lunch takes place on the hottest day of the summer when it is almost too hot to move. In addition to Tom, Daisy, Nick, and Gatsby, Daisy's friend Jordan is also there. During lunch, Tom sees Daisy and Gatsby glance at each other and immediately realizes that they are having an affair.
Wolfsheim tells Nick that Gatsby is a man of "fine breeding" who would "never so much as look at a friend's wife." As for Wolfsheim, Gatsby tells Nick he's the man behind the fixing of the 1919 World Series. Nick begins to think Gatsby's might be involved in organized crime.
This is at the very end of the novel. Of the late Gatsby, Tom says, “That fellow had it coming to him. He threw dust in your eyes just like he did in Daisy's….” And that's why it matters that Nick is gay and in love with Gatsby: because Tom's assessment is spot-on, but Nick will never admit it.
Wolfsheim is a shady character with underground business connections. He gives Nick the impression that the source of Gatsby's wealth might be unsavory, and that Gatsby may even have ties to the sort of organized crime with which Wolfsheim is associated.
As it is revealed throughout the novel, the sole purpose of his efforts is to gain the affection of his past lover Daisy Buchanan, whom he deserted five years earlier to go to war. Despite Gatsby's “romantic readiness” (2), as narrator Nick Carraway puts it, he subtly shows that his love for Daisy is never genuine.
While Gatsby is away from the table, Wolfsheim tells Nick that Gatsby is an "Oggsford" man, as well as a "perfect gentleman" who is "very careful with women." Wolfsheim describes Gatsby as the "kind of man you'd like to take home and introduce to your mother and sister."
With Nick now believing all, Gatsby tells Nick that he has a favor to ask of him, but he can't ask it himself. Jordan Baker, whom Nick is having tea with later that day, will ask it for Gatsby. This annoys Nick. At lunch, Nick meets Gatsby's business associate, Meyer Wolfsheim.
We learn from Nick about Gatsby's true origins. His real name is James Gatz. He comes from North Dakota. At the age of 17 he changed his name to Jay Gatsby after meeting a rich mining prospector called Dan Cody.
In addition to revealing Gatsby's dark side, Fitzgerald also uses Wolfsheim as a vehicle for highlighting Nick's judgmental nature. He is quick to make assumptions about Gatsby's friend during their lunch, and this detail calls attention to the biases Nick holds as the novel's narrator.

Before marrying Tom, Daisy had a romantic relationship with Jay Gatsby. Her choice between Gatsby and Tom is one of the novel's central conflicts. She was described by Fitzgerald as a "golden girl".
