Summary: Chapter 24Katniss explains that the berries, some of which Foxface stole, are poisonous. In a way, Peeta outsmarted Foxface. They decide to hold on to the rest of the berries in case the same opportunity arises with Cato.
Summary: Chapter 25. Katniss recognizes the strange creatures chasing Cato as muttations, hybrid animals engineered by the Capitol. These muttations look like giant wolves but can walk upright like humans. Cato runs to the Cornucopia and Katniss follows, but she realizes Peeta can't keep up because of his injured leg.

Then, there's a shriek from the birds and Cato emerges from the woods sprinting toward them. Katniss hits him in the chest with an arrow, but it bounces off of whatever armor he wears. Cato sprints past Katniss and Peeta, and Katniss sees that he's running from creatures.
Summary and Analysis Part 3: Chapter 23. Katniss and Peeta try to pace themselves on the rich food so that they don't get sick. They talk about what life might be like if they win, if they get to live in the Victor's Village with Haymitch, which gets Katniss wondering about Haymitch and how he won the Games.
Peeta thanks Katniss for finding him and she says that he would have done the same. He talks about what Katniss should do if he doesn't make it back. She's worried that he might die, and to keep him from speaking of such things, she kisses him.
Often, he would stare at her in school. Sometimes Katniss would make eye contact with him, only for his eyes to quickly flit away. During an interview with Caesar Flickerman preceding the Games, Peeta admits on national television to having a long-standing crush on Katniss.
The 24th Hunger Games were won by the 16 year old Rowen Rupen, who was the first female victor from her district. These games were greatly described in the book, 'Sugar' - The 66th Hunger Games.
Katniss and Peeta head to the lake, but Cato doesn't seem to be there when they arrive. They wait in the open. As they wait, Katniss sings Rue's four-note melody to the mockingjays, and they pick it up.
She ponders Gale's answer, that Katniss will choose the one she can't survive without. Katniss feels she can survive without both of them. In the morning, the group learns that rebel forces have found a way to safely advance past the pods and are quickly gaining ground.
When Clove saw Thresh holding a large rock, she screamed for Cato. Thresh smashed the rock into her temple, denting her skull. Cato ran to her after hearing her cries, but Clove died in Cato's arms as he begged her to stay with him.
Katniss goes along with Caesar's suggestion but tries to keep the focus on Peeta. She finds out, too, that Peeta lost his leg and gets her first look at his prosthetic. Caesar, as expected, asks Katniss about the berries, and she struggles to get the right words out, but, afterward, Haymitch says she was perfect.
Peeta pulls out his knife and Katniss instinctually points her arrow at his heart, but Peeta just tosses the knife into the lake. He tells her to kill him. Ashamed, Katniss refuses, deciding that to go back without Peeta would mean that a part of her would never escape the arena. She wants him to kill her instead.
Peeta asks Katniss what Haymitch means and is extremely upset to discover that Katniss's feelings for him have all been an act, part of a survival strategy.
She was only 13 years old when she was killed in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, and her youth only makes the tragedy that much harder for Katniss to bear after everything else she had suffered. Prim's death is a truly heartbreaking moment.

Prim is Katniss' younger sister who was selected in the reaping for the Seventy-fourth Hunger Games, but Katniss volunteered to serve as tribute instead. She works with her mother as a healer in District 12 to care for and cure the starving, sick, and wounded.
Due to the horror of his Games, his grief over his family's and girlfriend's deaths, and the overwhelming guilt he felt from being obligated to participate in the Games he hated while each and every one of his mentored tributes died in them, Haymitch turned to alcoholism to cope with his issues and feelings.
The 72nd Hunger Games was known for being one of the best known Hunger Games in the history of Panem. It was also the first Games where Seneca Crane was Head Gamemaker. Art Solace was crowned as the victor of the 72nd Hunger Games. Art scored a 8 in his Training session.
Katniss is rendered deaf in one ear after she blows up the Careers' supplies, and she doesn't regain any hearing on her left side until afterwards when the Capitol gives her a hearing aid.
While the Hunger Games film never talked about it, the Catching Fire novel explained why she could only communicate through hand gestures. Katniss briefly mentioned that a previous stroke could have caused Mags' garbled speech. However, post-traumatic stress disorder could have also caused her speech incapacity.
It's only implied that they get it on via snuggling and other affectionate acts in close quarters — but if you have read the book, they really imply that they took their relationship to the next level.
