He says that after their fight, he was suicidal, only rescued by the encouragement of Sato to prove himself, and that is what he has been doing ever since, becoming a sensei in Okinawa and passing on the teaching of Miyagi Do to his students.
Seeing that he had a hand on making Chozen land where he was now, Sato decided to forgive Chozen and let him redeem himself, he gave his nephew a second chance at life, which he took to heart. Sato ultimately managed to put Chozen in the right path before dying, making him a better man for the conceivable future.
When given the chance to live or die, Chozen chooses to die. However, instead of giving him his wish, Daniel, in a similar fashion of what Miyagi did to Kreese at the beginning of the film, honks his nose instead of delivering the fatal blow, sparing Chozen's life.
Unfortunately, Silver took the opportunity to use his katana and slash Chozen on his back, causing him to lose a lot of blood and fall into the water. Silver left him there to die. After Miyagi-Do successfully exposed Silver and Cobra Kai's horrible practices to the public, Daniel began to worry over Chozen.
She eventually joins the Hijikata Tatsumi Dance Company, and travels the world, only to return home to care for Aunt Yukie when she becomes sick. After Aunt Yukie passes away, Kumiko inherits her home, settles back in Okinawa, and becomes a dance teacher for children.

According to Screen Rant, Shue did not reprise her role as Ali in The Karate Kid Part II due to her academic commitment as a student at Harvard University. Shue wasn't sure that The Karate Kid fans would even care if she returned as Ali in Cobra Kai, but she eventually agreed to reprise her role.
Chozen ultimately survives and is put into an ambulance, being helped out by Barnes and Johnny just as they arrive at the Cobra Kai Encino dojo where Terry Silver had recently been defeated by Daniel and arrested for his crimes.
So all things considered, The Karate Kid Part II villain and The Karate Kid Part III villain are the two most talented fighters on the show, so if there's any one around who can beat Silver, it would have to be Chozen. No one else is capable of challenging - much less defeating - him alone.
Chronologically, audiences didn't see Chozen change only the result, so when watching it would be an odd ending for these two to end up together. Kumiko and Chozen's supposed close relationship after the events of Karate Kid Part II is debunked in both the original films and in Cobra Kai.
Chozen may be stronger than them, but the effortless beatdowns given out by Mr. Miyagi in The Karate Kid Part III are feats only his character is capable of achieving.
Although Yukie was arranged to marry Sato, she had instead fallen in love with Miyagi. Their love for one another was so strong that Miyagi had announced that he would break the tradition of arranged marriage and marry Yukie anyway. Sato, however, felt disgraced and challenged Miyagi to a fight to save his honor.
Chozen probably, but what a fight it would be. Terry Silver's skill obviously has improved, as we saw in season 4. This new Silver might not have lost to Mr Miyagi so easily, but Chozen is the true heir of Sato's Karate, so there's no competition for him any time soon.
As for Johnny, he didn't fight Chozen, but since his skills are comparable to Daniel's, it's likely that Chozen would emerge victorious if the two were to come to blows.
While there's no evidence that suggests Mike Barnes is better than Chozen in Cobra Kai, it's worth noting that Sean Kanan's character was the superior fighter at an earlier point in the franchise's timeline. After all, only one of these two characters – Barnes – was obviously more skilled than Daniel.
