Eve, traumatised by her near-death experience at the hands of Villanelle, quits MI6 and begins living a low-profile existence, whilst Villanelle attempts to discover new ways of earning a living after she stops killing for The Twelve.
Just after Villanelle murders the entirety of The Twelve, standing in the glow of her accomplishment and embracing Eve as a happily committed couple, she's shot dead by Carolyn Martens' sniper. Did playing air guitar mean nothing to Carolyn?
Much too rushed, very anti-climactic and made no sense and even the cast seemed at sea. Overall, really enjoyed 'Killing Eve' and found it really addictive but it is so unfortunate and anger inducing that a show that started off so great ended as badly as it did. 8/10.
An Unseen Assassin Guns Down Villanelle In The End
Even after Villanelle and Eve plunged into the River Thames, the gunman kept firing and repeatedly hit Villanelle. She dies at the end of her story after finally (but briefly) experiencing a happy moment with Eve, the person she loves.
The fourth season was horribly done, the writer was lazy, and they added many characters that weren't needed. Plot holes galore, doesn't tie in with the third season ending, and the build up of four seasons ends with a five minute fight scene. Should have killed off Eve instead. Content collapsed.

Is Eve a psychopath Killing Eve?
Throughout the show, Eve acts in increasingly psychopathic ways, but the question of whether she is a psychopath remains unanswered. This creates conceptual space between behavior and diagnosis that troubles psychopathy's status as a clearly bounded category, as well as its taken-for-granted application to Villanelle.
They're angry about the deviation from Luke Jennings' source material, which ended with Eve and Villanelle living together in happiness. They're angry about the show's reliance on the Bury Your Gays trope, in which gay characters are seen as more expendable than their heterosexual counterparts.
But it also makes sense from Eve's point of view because Villanelle has continually broken their pact to stay away from each other. The Russian psychopath obviously kept tabs on Eve and she even knows Polastri has been living in a hotel.
As we'd later find out, Eve's dark and curly head of hair reminded Villanelle of Ana (Susan Lynch), the first object of her love and obsession. For Villanelle, the attraction to Eve is immediate.

While Carolyn was in fact revealed to be manipulating Eve and Villanelle, she is considered the second series' overarching antagonist due to not being a direct threat and especially since Aaron Peel was the main antagonist and had bigger plans than her.
Villanelle would take a few more bullets before floating away lifeless, the blood around her seeming to form angel wings, her hand just out of reach of Eve's. And then, viewers saw that this hit was ordered by… Carolyn, who relayed a "Jolly good" into her walkie-talkie.
The Twelve are the main antagonists of the Villanelle novel trilogy written by Luke Jennings, as well as the TV series Killing Eve. They are an organization lead by twelve unseen individuals who use assassins to eliminate certain individuals across Europe.
After the series finale finally lets Villanelle and Eve consummate their long simmering sexual tension and bring down The Twelve, it almost immediately pivots to someone murdering Villanelle in cold blood as Eve stares on in horror.
The way Eve and Villanelle care for each other runs so deep that it's hard to describe. It's like their attraction and love for one another existed even before they did. It was fated, destined, because it was always them.

Hence, Martens was very familiar with Villanelle (even if the reverse wasn't true) in Killing Eve season 1. Carolyn's sordid history does have enough leeway to retcon that she was a founding member of The Twelve, but it opens up many questions.
Killing Eve shows us that women can play roles traditionally saved for men, and do it well. They can be fully realized, well rounded, complex, and interesting characters. And, at the same time, be fully human. The show allows them to do what they are good at while not being perfect at the same time.
Though long-time Villanelle fans might've been every bit as grief-stricken as Eve that the assassin has been murdered, Killing Eve wasn't about to let up on the twists quite yet. The Killing Eve book ending sees Eve whisked to safety by Tikhomirov and making contact with Oxana's old French teacher.
Killing Eve still manages to occasionally delight in its third outing — and the finale sets up some huge new storylines for the already-confirmed fourth season. Content collapsed. Coupled with Comer and Oh's always-electrifying tug of war and a new batch of zippy one-liners, it's a satisfying, entertaining return.

Eve is a bored, whip-smart security services operative whose desk-bound job doesn't fulfill her fantasies of being a spy. Villanelle is a talented killer, who clings to the luxuries her violent job affords her.
