The death of her youngest child affects her so much that she ultimately leaves District 12 and its memories of Prim, settling down roots in District 4 and choosing to spearhead a new hospital there instead. And while she doesn't live with Katniss, we do know Mrs.
Before Katniss goes to the Capitol with her squad, she says her final goodbye to her family. When Prim is killed in the bombing at President Snow's mansion, Mrs. Everdeen goes to District 4 to head up a new hospital rather than return to District 12 which was now too painful for her.

Why didn t Katniss like her mom?
Katniss has a conflicted relationship with her mother. Following her father's death, her mother fell into deep depression and now rarely speaks. As a result, Katniss has a difficult time feeling love and affection for her mother, even as she recognizes that her mother is a kind and intelligent woman.
She was only 13 years old when she was killed in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, and her youth only makes the tragedy that much harder for Katniss to bear after everything else she had suffered. Prim's death is a truly heartbreaking moment.

The only information the audience has about Katniss' future is that she and Peeta have a child together 15 years after their experiences in the Rebellion (at 33 years old) and that five years later, they have a second child.

Incidentally, it's this exact type of bomb that took Prim's life.
Katniss comes close to crying, something she knows she mustn't do because it would indicate weakness to the other tributes and make her look vulnerable; thankfully, Haymitch distracts the crowd and the cameras by stumbling off stage.
Reasoning: Yes, Gale designed a weapon, and this weapon went on and killed Prim. But this was war. Gale was trying to win, and he had no idea that Prim would be there. If I recall, he was extremely upset when he found out.
Prim hears Katniss and turns to see her running towards her. As Katniss gets nearer to the barricade, a second wave of bombs go off, sending Katniss hurtling through the air and killing many more children, including Prim. The last word from Prim in the novel before she died was "Katniss".
Katniss, meanwhile, is four years older and very protective of Prim, and so without hesitation she volunteers to take her sister's place. Moreover, she has years of experience hunting (and therefore killing) and is far less sensitive than her sister, making her more likely to survive the ordeal of the Games.
