Character development after the events of Tokyo Drift Sean Boswell, Twinkie and Earl also returned to the series in F9. During the events of F9, Boswell, Twinkie and Earl had left Japan and were involved in rocket development in Germany.
What happened to Sean after Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift?
Given that Sean ended up as a rocket scientist living in Germany with Twinkie in F9: The Fast Saga, it's likely that neither of them is the Drift King and that the title belongs to somebody completely unknown.
Through such training, he became skilled enough to become the "Drift King" of Tokyo, besting the former king (Takashi) and was skilled enough to retain the title when Dominic Torreto challenged him, though he implied it was a close race.
Although Otto and Dom's brother Jakob later kidnap Elle, Han helps the team rescue her and stop the activation of Aries. He is later seen among the several members at the partially re-built Toretto house in L.A., reuniting with his Tokyo crew; Sean, Twinkie and Earl, who are overjoyed to see him alive.
Nobody, who warns him that both Dante and the new leader of the Agency, Aimes, are coming after him. Dom then tracks down Dante in Rio de Janeiro, challenging him to a street race, which he loses after saving Isabel Neves, the sister of Elena, from a car that Dante lodged a bomb into.
After his partner Gisele (Gal Gadot) died, Han took the job of protecting Project Aries, and by extension Elle, at the behest of Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell). Once it became clear that the only way to truly do that was to appear dead to the world, Mr. Nobody faked Han's death, using Shaw's attack as cover.
Han was then retconned to have died in Tokyo Drift's conclusion at the hands of Shaw's vengeful brother Deckard (Jason Statham). However, F9 reveals that Han never died during that race. Instead, he faked his death with the help of Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell).
Shawn Boswell: 'Cause that's a lot of money. Han: I have money, it's trust and character I need around me. You know, who you choose to be around you lets you know who you are. One car in exchange for knowing what a man's made of?
Now DK is crying cuz he's brought much shame to the family and promptly goes bananas, raiding the Han playground and causing our heroes to scatter all over downtown Tokyo. We lose the scrawny lackey in a head-on crash and then Han the philosopher is killed in a fiery wreck.
However Han survives and goes into hiding. At the end of Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, he is beaten and humiliated by Sean in their final race, giving Sean the title Drift King. In a deleted scene, Takashi is shown being taken away by Kamata's men after he got out of the wreckage of his Z33.
Walker didn't reprise his role as Brian in Tokyo Drift, but that's not because he didn't want to. He revealed in the past that his absence came down to a new direction that the studio wanted to take the Fast & Furious franchise.
The Fast and Furious movies aren't in order, which has left a lot of fans wondering how Tokyo Drift relates to the story. As it turns out, Universal wanted to focus on a high school character and setting. It was during this time Han was first introduced to the franchise.
However, Letty is not killed by the explosion caused by Fenix and is instead hospitalized with amnesia. She was found two days later in the hospital, by Owen Shaw who had went there to kill her. However when he determined that she had no memory of her previous life, he decided she would be a good member on his team.
He also reunites with Sean Boswell from Tokyo Drift, who likewise returns in the latest Fast film and is overjoyed to discover that his old friend is alive after all.
Uncle Kamata reveals that Han has been secretly stealing from the Yakuza by not informing DK of all the side deals. DK is frustrated and upset by this, and after Kamata leaves, he and Morimoto drive to Han's garage.
Han Solo's death in The Force Awakens (2015) came about when writer/director J. J. Abrams felt the character was not evolving or contributing to the story's development; he believed that Kylo Ren killing his own father would give him a chance to develop into a worthy successor for Darth Vader.
Han Seoul-Oh was originally meant to be a smoker by way of referencing the Han Lue character. However, Universal Pictures would not allow the character smoke in their PG-13 film franchise, thus Lin resorted to having Sung Kang's character be seen constantly eating.
It turns out that Han's death was faked by Kurt Russell's Mr Nobody, with some high-tech visual illusion. Retconning his demise again, Fast 9 reveals that the street racer was working for him in Tokyo.
Fast & Furious 11 is set to be released in cinemas on April 4, 2025 but as mentioned above, that date will be delayed. Development is already underway on the 11th movie with Fast X director Louis Leterrier returning. The new movie will be written by Christina Hodson and Oren Uziel.
Tokyo Drift was filmed in Tokyo without permits due to strict regulations on filming in the city. Director Justin Lin used guerrilla filming tactics to capture scenes in Shibuya, resulting in an arrest. Universal Studios hired a "fall guy" to take the blame for the illegal filming, protecting Lin from facing jail time.
Tokyo Drift is the third in the series but actually set way later in the timeline, so you'll want to skip that and jump to Fast & Furious, Fast Five, and Fast & Furious 6.
