John Carpenter (born January 16, 1948, Carthage, New York, U.S.) is an American filmmaker who is regarded as a master of the low-budget horror film. He often wrote, produced, and scored the movies he directed, many of which became cult classics.
Carpenter's films are characterized by minimalist lighting and photography, panoramic shots, use of steadicam, and scores he usually composes himself. With a few exceptions, he has scored all of his films (some of which he co-scored), most famously the themes from Halloween and Assault on Precinct 13.
