"Hell," and "damnit," can be heard a few times. Two uses of "fuck", one isn't clearly heard like the other, and two of "shit". "Goddamn" is said at the very beginning of the film.
There's one f-bomb and a couple of swear words however nothing too intense. Drinking/smoking:3/10 One women smokes and some adults drink wine. Nothing bad. I would recommend this to people with mature children.
Angry, she storms out onto the roof, where she meets Beetlejuice, a demon who dreams about getting rid of the curse that makes him invisible to the living world. Beetlejuice realizes that the girl can see him and is a perfect candidate for breaking the curse.
There is some inappropriate language and scenes. Lot of sexual innuendos and use of the f- bomb. Might go over your child's head, but up to you if you want to chance it.
It is definitely NOT kid friendly. With all the bad language and reference to the use of cocaine and adult humor I felt very uncomfortable being there with my child. And all the liberal gay jokes were just uncalled for. Sorry I wasted my money on it.
In the film, saying the name “Beetlejuice” thrice is the key to summoning him. Saying his name 3 times stresses how much he is wanted and acts like some sort of a “contract.” So, once he appears, you couldn't raise the defense that you summoned him by accident.
Parents need to know that there is sporadic violence in Edward Scissorhands. Aside from a woman attempting to seduce Edward wearing a lace bra (she mounts Edward while he is on a chair and attempts to use his scissors to cut off her clothes), sexuality is limited to courting rituals (kissing and hugging).
She was fifteen, she turned sixteen on the movie. She was a prodigy. From a very young age, she was an old soul. She really got the words and the imagery.

Although Beetlejuice as a whole isn't considered an overly scary film, there are some instances of graphic images that kids who are easily spooked may not handle well. A woman blowing cigarette smoke through her slit throat and bloody limbs shown in the afterlife waiting room are prime examples.
But Lydia's obsession with the dead does have a bit of a downside. She gets so sad and disgusted with her parents at one point that she decides to commit suicide so that she can join the Maitlands: LYDIA: He told me that if I let him out he would take me to the other side to find you. BARBARA: No, Lydia, we're dead.
Reserved only for impact in the PG-13 universe, R-rated films have a green light to use the F-word unregulated. You only get one, and you better make it count.
Feeling alone and betrayed again, Beetlejuice talks with his clones about how he wants to leave the house to finally connect with people now that he can be seen. To achieve this, he decides to trick Lydia into marrying him, which will allow him to roam free in the living world ("That Beautiful Sound" (reprise)).
Beetlejuice is able to change shape, transform and conjure objects, teleport, and perform other feats of magic, although his powers can be reduced by various circumstances, such as when he feels fear, or when his head becomes separated from his body.
Also, a heads' up: Even though this movie isn't intended for kids young enough to really still want to believe in Santa, just in case: Phoebe Cates' character gives a memorable speech about how she found out that St. Nick wasn't real. There is also a lot of salty language; much more profanity than you may remember.
This is a cute Halloween flick without too much gore. The issue is that the PG rating is too low for what the movie contains. It views more like a PG-13. While the Halloween violence is minimal, there are numerous sexual innuendos in this movie that are shocking for a movie that seems to be aimed for kids.
The BBFC gave the uncut film a 15 certificate in August 1984. Gremlins remained a 15 until November 2012, when a submission of a theatrical re-release was given a 12A certificate.
