Newt really did die in the Maze Runner Series. He died in the third book, The Death cure. There are five books in the series. The Maze Runner, The Scorch Trial, and The Death Cure being the main three.
While Chuck and Thomas watch, four boys run in through the doors and enter a concrete building in the Glade. Shortly afterward, the giant stone walls slide into a locked position, sealing the Glade off from the Maze. Chuck tells Thomas that the boys are called Maze Runners.
Due to its current development status, Maze Runner 4's release date is unknown. Disney has never given the film a date on its schedule, even though the studio has releases mapped out through 2027. This might mean that the earliest Maze Runner 4 could be released is 2028.
Thomas believes that Dr. Paige has betrayed him and Teresa. Thomas's emotions are then shown as he sees his memories being lost. The book ends with him standing up in the Box with his memories gone, which set the events of the main series in motion.
Plus, with Thomas unable to get the "cure" to Newt in time to save his life, Thomas doesn't have much personal incentive to help resolve the pandemic, since everyone else he cares about is immune.
Newt and Sonya both didn't know they were siblings, but Sonya probably knew later when she got her memories back. Sonya managed to get to the safe haven in The Death Cure. In the movies, we first see Sonya with group B as they were found by group A.
Thomas (books 1–3, 5, minor appearance in book 4) is one of the creators of the Maze along with Teresa Agnes, and later a Group A Glader in books 1–3. He is the main protagonist of the series, named after Thomas Edison. Thomas's name was Stephen before WICKED took him from his mother.

Thomas tells the Keepers that he and Teresa were manipulated into designing the Maze because they share the gift of telepathy. He convinces the others that he and Teresa are now in as much danger as them, but he knows the way out. Thomas tells them in order to escape, they have to jump through the Griever Hole.
Teresa wakes from her coma, and tells Thomas telepathically that she triggered the Ending. The food is running low, the sky is permanently gray, the box is not coming up, and that same night the maze doors stay open.
Gally is alive in Maze Runner: The Death Cure because he was rescued and saved after The Maze Runner's ending. Although the Gladers thought that he was already dead, Gally confirms that they left him to die. It was after they left that another group stumbled across the maze and laboratory and found Gally still inside.
Thomas and Newt reunite with Minho and escape from the WCKD building. Teresa discovers that Thomas' blood can cure the Flare. She shares her discovery with WCKD's leader, Ava Paige, both of whom agree that they must find Thomas. Brenda and the Immune children escape WCKD with Frypan's help.
Eventually, Newt tells Tina that he is not engaged to Leta. He awkwardly tries to confess to Tina that he has fallen in love with her but nervously blurts that she has "the eyes of a salamander", leaving Tina crestfallen.
At some point after the end of the global wizarding war, Newt and Tina marry and have a grandson named Rolf who marries Luna Lovegood. Newt is the author of the book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which is used as a textbook by Harry Potter and his classmates.
It is confirmed that Newt eventually ends up marrying Tina Goldstein. Tina, played by Katherine Waterston, was Newt's love interest throughout the first and second films.

In The Fever Code, Minho is introduced as a ten-year-old boy fighting some nurses. It is the brain surgery day when the subjects get their implants. Minho yells a warning to a stunned Thomas before the nurses can sedate him.
The novel establishes the theme of the search for lost memories and identity from the earliest pages as Thomas arrives at his new life knowing little more than his first name.
