Blade Runner 2049 mainly follows Officer K (Ryan Gosling), a Nexus-9 replicant used by the Los Angeles Police Department as a Blade Runner to track down and retire other rogue replicants. As a replicant, K is ostracized by the humans he works with, but as a Blade Runner, his job is to kill his own kind.

Nexus-6 replicants had a built-in four-year lifespan, created as a safety mechanism to prevent possible emotional development. Due to their short lifespans, replicants had no framework within which to deal with their emotions.
The horse, with the inscription "6.10. 21", establishes the connection between the dead female replicant who gave birth and died on 6.10. 21, and K himself, implying that the memories were not in fact "implanted" but are rather genuine after all.
However, he later learns that, even if the memory is real, it was not his own but Dr Ana Stelline's. Through her work, Dr Stelline shared her memory with K, and this allowed him to understand what it was like to walk in her shoes, but most importantly, to believe himself a free, loved replicant.
In a 2023 interview, Ford stated that he "always knew" that Deckard was a replicant, but wanted to "push back against it", adding that a replicant (or at least, Deckard) would want to believe that they are human.
Replicants were sometimes referred to as "skin jobs" or "skinners," as they were indistinguishable from non-engineered humans, except for their empathetic abilities. These terms were considered slurs. Mentioned in the original Blade Runner.
They never seem to say for sure but from what I'd gathered Replicants are genetically engineered and artificially grown but biologically speaking are essentially the same as humans, as in under their skin, they have muscles and bones and organ tissue and not wires and computer chips and metal frames, right?
By its conclusion, the film suggests that one's ability and willingness to perceive systemic social inequality is the true measure of humanity. Blade Runner trains us into awareness of flawed social hierarchies by repeatedly emphasizing eyes and connecting them with perception beyond the physical.
Personhood. Blade Runner raises the question of whether a constructed being should count as a person. In the movie, replicants lack legal rights and are not regarded as human. Similar questions are raised in later unrelated works such as Her and Westworld.
What critics failed to understand is that the glowing eyes weren't there for the characters or actors, but rather for the audience. The Replicants eyes didn't actually glow in the world of Blade Runner. It was simply a stylistic choice to help the audience follow the narrative.
