Which is better, Sicario or Sicario 2?
Sicario's sequel has good action sequences, and even though it doesn't feel as deep as the first one without Blunt's character it's still an entertaining story. Sicario: Day of the Soldado thrills with solid action, an engaging plot, and well-rounded characters. Cruel, brutal and real.
Though less subversive than its predecessor, Sicario: Day of the Soldado succeeds as a stylish, dynamic thriller -- even if its amoral machismo makes for grim viewing.

With blood pouring from his face, he gets himself untied and takes off the cover over his face to reveal that the gunshot had gone into one cheek and out the other side.
Although “Sicario” is a fictional work, it closely mirrors the grim realities of criminal activities in Mexico and nearby regions. The term “Sicario,” meaning “hitman” in Spanish, resonates strongly with the notorious figures involved in Mexican drug cartels.
Subsequently, he became a "sicario," or assassin, for anyone willing to employ him against the Mexican cartel. His primary employers are the supposedly resurrected Medellín Cartel and the Central Intelligence Agency.
"American Sicario" is an action movie based on a true story. For all the fans of the "Sicario" movies with Benicio Del Toro, do not have your hopes high. This movie does not belong in the same category.

It's a powerful ending that cuts directly to the message of Sicario, that we live in a broken and messed up world, one where nobody is left innocent or unscathed. It's exactly the ending that works for a film like Sicario, and it's hard to think that it could end any other way.

There's something very clearly missing from Sicario 2, and that's a character that the audience can root for. Even though Emily Blunt was nowhere near the standout in the first film, she played a character that the audience could root for and was essentially how you followed the plot of the story.
“We had been so proud of our work on the first film and for Soldado, we felt it was really critical that everything matches that or tries to surpass it.” Sicario was shot mostly in and around Albuquerque to take advantage of New Mexico's film tax incentive.
In an interview with The Wrap, screenwriter Taylor Sheridan revealed that he intentionally didn't write Kate into the sequel because he felt her character arc was complete. He also believed it wouldn't have been appropriate to bring back her character, as she was unnecessary to the plot.
One of the reasons why Sicario is still considered the better of the two films is because of Blunt's performance as FBI Special Agent Kate Macer. Not only was she well-written and portrayed, but she added another layer to Sicario beyond what's typically seen in other movies in the genre.
