The extraordinary 13-minute opening of Alfonso Cuaron's “Gravity” is like a mini-movie, setting up the zero-gravity world in space, the two astronauts played by Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, the mood, the tension, the crisis, and the metaphor.
Gravity's first and most important achievement comes in its concept. Despite being set entirely in space, it's difficult to categorize it as a science fiction film. Everything depicted in Gravity is based on real technology.
After some ominous text, the movie opens to a shot of earth from space.
