The Jedi Master Yoda was the best-known member of a species whose true name is not recorded. Known in some sources simply as Yoda's species, this species of small carnivorous humanoids produced several well-known members of the Jedi Order during the time of the Galactic Republic.
Yoda's species has been a mystery since his introduction in The Empire Strikes Back, and creator George Lucas has been cryptic about their origins. Only three members of Yoda's species are known in the Star Wars canon: Yoda, Yaddle, and Grogu (baby Yoda).
In fact, they are referred to almost exclusively as “Yoda's species.” This makes sense, being that Yoda was the leader of the Jedi Order™. He had been a Jedi for most of his 900 years of life. And yet, though we know he was a Jedi for a long period of time, we don't know much about his past.

This is huge. Not only was Yoda thought to be the last of his kind (and permanently extinct with his death in Return of the Jedi), but this is the first we've come to learn anything about Yoda's species.

He is a toddler member of the same species as the Star Wars characters Yoda and Yaddle, with whom he shares a strong ability in the Force.
