"Encanto" is set in Colombia. Although the exact town "Encanto" takes place in is fictional, it is inspired by real places. Members of the film's crew spent two weeks in Colombia to research.
I had never seen myself so much in a character, certainly not in Disney, not in the U.S., not in Colombia, not anywhere. As a racially ambiguous Afrodescended first-generation Colombian immigrant, Encanto represents such a stark deviation from most U.S. narratives and stereotypes.

Lee Unkrich, the film's director, said that Mama Coco was not based on any real person they met while traveling, Entertainment Tonight reported. The character in the movie was voiced by Ana Ofelia Murguía.

The Entire Town Saw Bruno As A Villain Because Of The Madrigals. Before viewers found out what happened to Bruno, Encanto fans were theorizing about where he went and why he wanted to hurt the Madrigals with bad visions. The entire town heard about Bruno's visions and agreed that he was bad news.
In addition to the violent scenes and scary visual images mentioned above, Encanto has some scenes that could scare or disturb children aged 5-8 years. For example, Mirabel is nearly killed when her uncle's room collapses around her, trapping her in a dark cave filled with flowing sand and falling debris.

Some of his mannerisms have sparked speculation about other possible diagnoses for the character, who's the focus of the movie's most popular song. "He thinks differently. He sees things differently," Adelakun says.
Though Encanto doesn't have a traditional villain, one theory states Dolores could be the film's secret antagonist. According to the fan theory (via Reddit), Dolores wants her family to lose their powers. After all, the gift of super hearing isn't necessarily as helpful as increased strength or instant plant life.
Mirabel's lack of a magical gift in Encanto doesn't define her worth or importance. She becomes the gift herself by bringing her family together and restoring Casita's magic. While there are theories about Mirabel's hidden gift, the movie emphasizes that her intelligence and problem-solving abilities are her true gift.
