The time period for Frozen is set in July 1843. In the upper left-hand corner of the geographical map shown in Frozen II, it is suggested by a set of Roman numerals that the year in which Agnarr and Iduna's ship sank was 1840. (MDCCCXL is the exact numeral order.)
Frozen is set in 1840s Norway. [Narrator] That's specific. [Risa] We know it's Norway because there are fjords. is named after the Norwegian town Arendal.
This would fit in with the fact that Frozen likely takes place in the late 1860s or early 1870s and Frozen 2 three years after, roughly when cameras would start to be used more in public life and, therefore, establishing the timeline of the franchise.
Set three years after the first film, Frozen II follows sisters Anna and Elsa, and their companions Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf as they travel to an enchanted forest to unravel the origin of Elsa's magical power.
Production on Frozen began more than 70 years before it was released. Frozen may have only come out in 2013, but the development of this story (which is loosely based on the Hans Christian Andersen tale, The Snow Queen) actually began around 1940.

Will there be a Frozen 3?
On February 8, 2023, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Frozen 3 is in the works, along with Toy Story 5 and Zootopia 2. While news of a third Frozen film was a welcome one, we have yet to hear more details about the movie or see a trailer.
Olaf appears in the sequel Frozen II, where he no longer needs a permanent snow flurry, as he is now made of permafrost, and enjoys being able to freely bask in the sun year-round. Now three years old, Olaf is slightly more intelligent and mature.
Among the main criticisms of Frozen 2 are that a lot of the introduction feels like it's moving the characterization backward, it doesn't hit the emotional depths of the first, and while the story is ambitious, it doesn't quite work in execution.
In the first Frozen movie, Elsa's age was 21, while Anna was 18. Considering Frozen revolved around Elsa's coronation, it's refreshing to see that Arendelle waited until she was a more appropriate age to receive the queen title. Frozen II occurred after a 3-year time jump, with Elsa now 24 and Anna 21.
Say the names quickly in sequence to hear the similarity. According to Jennifer Lee, Anna is 18 years old in the film, while both Elsa and Kristoff are 21 years old and Hans is 23 years old.
Created by co-writers and directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, Elsa is loosely based on the title character of "The Snow Queen", a Danish fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen.
Frozen 3 is anticipated to come out in theaters on November 26, 2025. Towards the end of Frozen 2, Elsa stayed in the forest and fully accepted her magical side while Anna found her place in the world by becoming the Queen of Arendelle.
Bergen. The historic city of Bergen, Norway's second-largest city, inspired the look and feel of the fictional Arendelle village in the Frozen franchise. The village of Arendelle is a typical fairytale setting, with a large castle set within a traditional village, surrounded by lush green forests and sparkling waters.
According to Frozen director, Jennifer Lee, Elsa stands at approximately 5'7", while Anna is a more average 5'5." Lee admits she may be off by a couple of inches as their heights are from her memory, but recalls these as the correct measurements for the sisters.
After "Do You Want To Build A Snowman?" ends, the movie skips forward and on-screen text that states three years have passed, which indicates that Anna and Elsa were both teenagers when their parents died. This was confirmed by Frozen's co-director, Jennifer Lee.
The film covers deep and heavy topics unknown to Disney princess films. The first Frozen broke the Disney formula by sharing “true love” doesn't need to be romantic. The second film addresses loss, grief, depression, and how to find hope and personal growth through life's uncertainties.
In an overall sense, Frozen 2 has a better storyline than its predecessor. It deals with some heavier themes, has different consequences, it's just stronger overall. Frozen 2 goes deeper, and digs into Elsa and Anna's background in some new ways.
The people of Arendelle are joyously preparing for her coronation day. Anna (now 18) is flushed with excitement as the castle gates are opened for the first time since the sisters' childhood.
At 21 years of age in the original film and 24 in the sequel, Elsa is a beautiful young woman, has a tall and slender build, blue eyes, rosy cheeks, thin pink lips, a small nose, long, platinum-blonde hair, and pale skin with a light dusting of freckles (a trait she shares with her sister Anna, though less prominent).
