The prologue also says that the enchanted rose would bloom until the Beast's “twenty-first year.” So that means that during the main storyline, the Beast/Prince is twenty or twenty-one years old and was cursed when he was eleven.
According to the opening narration, the Beast has only until his 21st birthday to find love before the petals fall off the rose and he is doomed to remain a Beast forever.

However, Gaston fatally stabs the Beast before losing his footing and falling to his death. The Beast dies in Belle's arms before the last petal falls. Belle tearfully professes her love to the Beast, and the spell is undone, reviving the Beast and restoring his human form along with his servants and castle.
The servants are clearly intent on preventing her from discovering the castle's enchantment, which seems counterintuitive. Wouldn't it be more probable for Belle to fall in love with a human prince who had been cursed rather than a monstrous creature?
But Belle touches the Beast's enchanted rose, intriguing images flood her mind—images of the mother she believed she would never see again. Stranger still, she sees that her mother is none other than the beautiful Enchantress who cursed the Beast, his castle, and all its inhabitants.
