Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey is set in California, with the pets' journey taking them through the Sierra mountain range. In reality, however, filming was conducted in Oregon due to its varied topography, and diverse locations in Portland were used to substitute San Francisco.
In British Columbia, the majority of the filming took place in Strathcona, Vancouver. The production team also set up shop at the Administration Building within the Molson Brewery at 1550 Burrard Street in Vancouver.

Sahalie and Koosah Falls are located along the McKenzie River in the Cascade Mountain wilderness only a 45 mile drive from our resort. Sahalie Falls is a mass of foaming white water plunging 100 feet (30 m) over a natural lava dam. This famous falls can be spotted in Disney's movie Homeward Bound.

Four American Bulldogs share the role of Chance, four Golden Retrievers share Shadow, and six Himalayan cat performers carry the part of Sassy. Laurence Fishburne was initially cast as Riley before Sinbad took over.
The porcupine scene was shot in cuts with a real porcupine and a fake dog. They allowed the porcupine to hit the fake dog to show contact. Then rubber porcupine needles were attached to the side of Chance's face with spirit gum, which is a substance that actors use to apply beards and mustaches to their faces.
The animals follow their instincts and head west, towards home, 300 miles away through the Canadian wilderness. They face many obstacles in their path; from rivers to irritable people, but nonetheless, they struggle bravely on, until they finally reach home.
Throughout film history, the U.S. state of Oregon has been a popular shooting location for filmmakers due to its wide range of landscapes, as well as its proximity to California, specifically Hollywood.
Paul Simon while still part of Simon & Garfunkel wrote most of their songs including 3 No. 1 hits Mrs. Robinson, Sound of Silence and Bridge Over Troubled Water. While Art Garfunkel was not a songwriter per se, he decided the harmonies of the songs, who would sing which part and how the songs were produced.
