Most of "Sicario" was shot in and around Albuquerque, New Mexico. The vast deserts and cities in this area made for a very different landscape that showcased the U.S.-Mexico border area where the story takes place.

Did they actually film Sicario in Juarez?
Some residents also said they resented the fact the movie was not made in Juárez. The action crosses between Mexico and the United States, but, because of security worries, the producers shot the movie in Albuquerque, El Paso and Mexico City.
