Joe Pesci's portrayal of Tommy remains a career-defining role, as his performance is both intimidating and sympathetic. The Tommy Goodfellas scene when the character gets whacked is still one of the most iconic moments in the movie.
With a story about the mafia come many deaths, some justified (within the mafia's rules, that is) and others not so much, and surprisingly enough, Goodfellas has only five on-screen deaths, but the bodies of other mob members who were killed off-screen are also shown, making the movie's death count slightly bigger.

Although the response from the mob was mostly good, there were many others who weren't on board with the themes addressed in Goodfellas and its portrayal of Italian-Americans.
Paulie angrily berates Henry for going against his back with drugs, but relents in giving him $3,200 for his family's sake. Paulie then disowns Henry by telling him "Now I gotta turn my back on you", to which Henry shamefully accepts.
